Until that time, his wife had never sought any medical help, or even communicated to her husband about the problem.

In a recent on-line survey about Chinese women's sexual situation, only 7 per cent expressed they will seek help from doctors if they have problem with sex. An amazing 37 per cent chose not to seek any help at all, with the remainder seeking help from the Internet or by reading relevant books.

The survey, held by the China Sexology Association and Sina.com, was conducted between August 22 and September 31, and was completed by more than 32,000 people. Although thorough analysis is still continuing, some preliminary results have been released.

Being an on-line survey, the domicile group who participated in the survey is assumed to be highly educated females living in large- or medium-sized Chinese cities, aged between 21 and 49 years old. As they are also Chinese Internet surfers, it is believed that they also have a knowledge about sex.

As high as 87 per cent of the women believe they have pleasure having sex, while only 6 per cent of the surveyed say they never reached orgasm. Thirty-three per cent say they will tell their partners if they want sex, and 53 per cent say they will give their partners a hint about their objective.

If they don't want to make love, but their partner request it, half say they will choose to comply, while the other half will tactfully refuse or communicate well with their partners.

"The findings reveal that, generally speaking, the group of women surveyed are confident and independent. They know how to express their feelings for sexual activity, care for themselves and know that communicating is important."

This result, however, contrasts some major aspects of another survey conducted by Pan Suiming, a scholar at Renmin University of China, in 1999-2000.

According to Pan's survey, only 6.8 per cent of Chinese women have experience of masturbation; nearly 80 per cent of Chinese women did not know exactly what orgasm is; as many as 62.8 per cent of women did not even know the location of clitoris.

"These results are hardly convincing from our clinical experience," observed Ma Xiaonian, director commissioner of the Professional Committee of China Sexology Association.

His association's findings on the Internet show that more than 60 per cent of women admit that they masturbated, 37 per cent admit they often have orgasm, and only 6 per cent say that they never had an orgasm. Eighteen per cent are "very satisfied" with their sex life, and 49 per cent are "relatively satisfied."

"These results are much closer to international statistics," observed Ma.
Besides not seeing doctors for their sexual problems, 75 per cent of women reported they experienced insufficient lubrication of the vagina, a big minus in the quality of sex life.

And although 55 per cent of the surveyed say they often change positions, the use of products to assist in sexual intercourse is very low. In America, 67 per cent of partners use lubricant, while 81 per cent of the Chinese say they never use such utilities.

... Upon closer reading, there seem to be three different studies, all of which conflict with each other:

"37 per cent admit they often have orgasm"

So take your pick. Obviously more study is needed before we can draw any conclusions.

I can give you assurances that I gave 100% of the Chinese women I dated orgasms (after the age of 15, that is). It's not a biological problem with the women, that's for damned sure. Of course, patriarchial society can be a turn off.

Sounds like a crock to me. 62% of women can't find their own clitoris? Uh huh...
although...I just though of a nice business.

I dont know about china, but i just moved back from living in taiwan. The girls there generally know a little about sex, but most dont have much experience with it, and the experience they have tends to be from guys who just dont care if the girl cums or not.

I believe that women in third world countries aren't as educated about sex like we are. My grandma, come to think of it, probably never had an orgasm either, and she was married for 40 years. There are many women across the world whose never encountered an argasm and with deliverance, I think our men should fly back there and show them what it's all about! :-p

Who here is man enough to start an experiment and start going out with just Chinese women to change these stats. hehe :lol:

^ I doubt that holds true for those who are chinese and living in America. Not saying anything about China just that it's a little different over here in that area it seems.

^ Thats what I was hoping for. It just doesn't seem right. I find all that hard to believe I guess. Seems a little far fetched that they aren't very familiar with their clitoris's and orgasms in general. My guess is it's more of a collection of flawed studies than anything that could be held as fact just yet. I'm sure someone e'll clear things up.

I think the whole problem stems from chinese cultural differences. Even nowadays chinese women are treated as second class citizens. They have to walk a few feet behind their man, and tend to his every need... I know this is a generalisation, but it is true for 70-80% of the chinese female population and they're taught to be like this from a young age.

Modern communications such as the internet will help to make them more independent.

As a note, I AM Chinese. While it's true that Chinese culture is currently very conservative sexually, this whole business about women walking behind the men is crap. Chinese women are expected to work, at a job if your in the city, in the fields if your in the country.
Let's not forget the crucial roles that women played in Chinese revolution, and the momumental freedoms that they've gained through it. Is Chinese society still patriarchical? Yes. Do chinese women grow up learning to tend to every need of a man? Tell you what, find a Chinese girl, ask her that, and come back and tell us what it felt like to get slapped in the face.
The problem with countries like China, is that their history is so long and varied, that most foreigners don't fully appreciate the differences between any two time frames in that country's timeline. Ask a random person on the street about women in China, more often then not they'll spew some crap about footbinding.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. I get emotional sometimes.

Sounds like bullshit to me. More articles with a slant toward emphasizing the stereotypes and inclinations we have to believe how Asians are/are not. Almost along the lines of the model minority citizen.

See how misleading it can be coupled with people's bias and ignorance?

I don't know K-wise well but I don't think he is biased or ignorant. Merely trying to post an eye catching headline to get people to read the article and post. When you hold a witch hunt you tend to find them even when they don't exist.

I've dated a few Korean girls. They ran the spectrum.

The first girl was a virgin, and it was hard for her to get aroused in anyway. I caught her trying to get herself drunk so that she could open up in the bedroom. Another (the most recent) was very sexual. She loved it, and he had no problems admitting to it. She had no problem climaxing, as a fact we always ended up climaxing together (god I miss her).

Now that is to say every other girl has ran the spectrum. So this is a cultural thing, but not a unique one. They are raised conservatively, with very few opportunities to experiment like we do here (there's a reason why Catholic schoolgirls have their rep.).
