Bout to take the first trip to the adult toy store for myself and my fiance, any suggestions, tips..etc?

Can't offer any advice, but I'd also be interested in seeing some suggestions and advice. Hopefully if my girlfriend comes to visit in February we'll be taking a trip to an adult store to get her first toys :D Looking forward to it.

I'd be way too embarassed to go in such a store with a girl, so I couldnt give any good advice.

I'd probably have an idea of what I wanted before I went in, eg: do you want vibrators for her, or anal beads, or do you want to go down the BDSM trail. If you have an idea of what you both want to get out of the experience (and what you both want to use at home) it may be a little more straight forward.

Then again, the two of you may want to wander around ooh'ing and aah'ing over everything for an hour or so!

Do a walk thru of the store first to see all that's available, then once you see everything, then focus on what really captured your attention.
Set a budget on how much you want to spend, it's easy to go nuts in those stores.
Talk to the staff of the store, there's probably no question they haven't heard before, and I doubt they embarass easily, otherwise they wouldn't be working there, for suggestions for "beginners"

Most of the time asking them to reccommend items work very well. You may be surprised, but in the ones I've been to, I've had people working their reccommend pornos, vibrators, and other fun "goodies." Their approach was also very professional about everything.

I'll agree with Mal and Just and say talk to the sales associates. Some people, when they go to adult stores, think that the sales associates must be ucky, creepy people since they work in a sex shop. They're actually really nice--one guy at my local store always has recommendations for me when I go in (and I don't even go in that often!).

Also realize that some things that seem expensive in the store can be found online more cheaply. Usually I go to the store to browse, not to buy--and do my buying online.

Hey thebeat . . . going to the adult toy store is fun and lively way to spend time with your SO . . . i go often with my hubby . . . It can be intimidating at first . . . But after a couple times, it will be a fun and enoyable experience and a way to explore your sexuality and relationship. . . . take your time, no rushing . . . and don't be embaressed to ask if you need advice on specific toys or looking for specific type of porn movies to watch, the employees who work at those stores are really open minded and i have noticed don't judge anyone . . . they've seen it all, believe me! :lol: They have everything from vanilla porn to kinky, and every sex toy from lovely virbators to some more errrrrr . . . interesting things . . . whatever you are into.

Hubby and i just went last night and had a blast . . . we like to take our time and discuss and look at all the new toys that are out and videos etc. it can really be a bonding experience . . . just keep an open mind and enjoy yourselves :) :thumbsup:

Strangely, when I go in with a partner, I find myself almost unable to purchase anything. I get worried that they won't like what I suggest or something... and I don't know why, because I'm a pretty outgoing gal.

I think the concept of going to the local adult book store to get sex toys is pretty dated. Order your stuff on the internet.. better selection, better prices, and no chance of running into anyone you know. Even Amazon.com sells vibrators and lube, and you can even read customer reviews!

Most porn stores make their money from the glory hole booths in the back. I don't want to hang out with all the guys that are into that.
