guitars
Now, I'm just curious. I have a thing for guys who play guitar. I think it is one of the sexiest things that could be declared non-sexual. Basically, any time I see my b/f play I want to just jump him right there, I don't care if he's on a stage in front of a ton of people. Anyone else feel that way?

Well since this isn't the Ladies forum I'm going to respond with a guy answer, I wear my hair long and play a little guitar (very little and I'm out of practice). When I was in college I would sit in front of my dorm room or out under a tree on campus and practice, and I noticed chicks would just stop and stare and be mesmerized. It was the only time random girls have ever just come up to me and flirted with me. There's just something about it that makes it a chick magnet.
On the flip side seeing a chick jamming out on an electric guitar is like instant wood. Acoustic doesn't do it for me but a hot girl pounding out a solo is like  |
I really like it when my wife plays some really great romantic (romantic period, not mood) music on the piano. I like Claude Debussy, Franz Liszt, Maurice Ravel, Feliz Mendelssohn...etc. (I realized that I don't need to list them all). There is something amazing about how graceful people look who play the piano. I wonder how I look?

First off, let me say that i'm not gay or Bi. Eitherway, we recently had a pageant at UF, where the contestants would demonstrate some of their talents. One of the contestants played his guitar and sang at the same time. I was completely mesmerized by his song.
I think what it is is that, it's a person singing with his heart, so you kind of see the complete emotional side of a person. Also, it is subtle, the person isn't going in front of you and saying a buncha emotional stuff, but rather, is expressing himself through art, art, which is attractive. |
Rinndalir, what you said about the acoustic vs electric is so true! Really jamming on an electric is much more sexual, where as an acoustic is kinda more romantic
|
A good friend of mine plays guitar. He's also, in my mind, a pretty attractive guy. When he plays, it just draws attention to his hands and makes me look at his long, tapered fingers. Thinking about hands and listening to him play Clapton automatically leads me into sexual fantasy land, regardless of what else is going on.
On a side note, I don't find Eric Clapton attractive at all, but when I listen to him play any number of his songs, I seriously reconsider that fact. |
I landed my wife playing guitar and singing. In a stairwell, where the the acoustics are all wet and echoey, which does good things to your voice. It was the first week of school--still Freshman Orientation week--and we weren't (quite) a couple yet. I took my guitar up three flights of stairs from my dorm room and sat in the stairwell of the girl's floor she lived on and started jamming. Before long she was there beside me. And before much longer, about ten OTHER girls were there too...
Being a guitarist turns out to be one of my most attractive qualities. |
Hmm...Interesting. Now shall I use this power for good? Or for AWESOME?

Sweet I'm a professional guitarist. I make my living off my music in one way or the other.
you should come pay me a visit lol (just playin') I've noticed a lot of men who play professionally instantly get a lot more action then those who don't (on average). The guitar is a sexual instrument though. Hands sliding up and down and all sorts of stuff like that. It's a confidence issue. Because if you have the balls to get up infront of a bunch of people and play an instrument for other's entertainment it exudes confidence. Anyway, it hasn't helped me at all though LOL |

Mmm, yes, guitar playing is pretty sexy, you got the whole rock star/rebel/poet thing going, and nice agile hands. But what really turns me on is 'cello players. That beautiful curvy instrument resting against the inside of the thigh, one elegant hand holding the bow and one moving up and down the neck (lots of sexy wrist action!), the head slightly bowed down in concentration, not to mention the sound! There's a reason I adore Paul Bettany in 'Master and Commander'! :D

Guys and guitars are HOT!
That's actually all I have to contribute... Oh wait... I have a story. In my friend's dorm in first year, there was a guy who brought an acoustic, even though he couldn't play, just to pick up girls. It worked too... man, we're easy... |

Now that you mention it, there were two guys in my high school who would always play their guitars after school. They always seemed to be surrounded by chicks... weren't really that hot, I supposed. But they kicked ass at guitar. |
*trips and falls*

I play jazz guitar.. does that count? or does it have to be rock.
|
lol yeah I play jazz guitar mostly to.
maybe that's my problem ;) |
I play guitar and my gf told me a few months ago that when I played a bit for her in the summer on her patio she wanted to jump me right there but had to hold back becuase we had just started seeing each other.
Then she wanted to live out her little fantasy so she had me play guitar while she went to work ;) |
Guitar Guys are Hot
I completely agree!
My boyfriend also plays guitar and I always get turned on by it as well. I think it has to do with how powerful music can be. A good musician can let you escape life in the music for awhile. I enjoy it. |
This post reminds me of that "Watch & Learn" commercial on MTV2 with the various types of musicians and the "sex-o-meter" right next to them.

i guess i'm the black sheep of this group...
i've always thought people playing the guitar were often being a bit pretentious and i find it a turnoff (if anything either way) when girls do it. were i a girl i think i would feel doubly so about guys doing it. it just seems like it is such a trendy thing to play that particular instrument... i dislike it for the same reasons that i am annoyed by abercrombie&fitch, ipods, and john mayer. i'm a decent piano player and am not into the whole counterculture thing... that is just my reaction. |

Ah yes, so true. That's why I play actaully, I get absorbed in my own music I can escape it let all my feelings come out and I feel refreshed after.
|
I play lead solo guitar (I'm a female) and guys tell me that's hot. lol
I only find guys and guitars hot if they're any good, not those that jump around on stage pounding powerchords. |

Since when is playing a guitar outside (as long as you arent bothering other people) pretentious? |
well, kirstang was the one who mentioned people playing outside specifically, but i do agree w/him somewhat so i'm not indignant at being lumped in.
the reason i often find that pretentious is because people i know who do that usually play to be noticed, not so much to play for themselves or anyone who comes along. it just seems people often pick up the guitar in order for people (read: girls) to identify them with a particular archetype. they know that some shaggy-haired guy playing his guitar (ostensibly to themselves) under a tree evokes particular images in some people. there are plenty of instruments out there, but you don't see people with their carefully marketed brand of hip picking up the violin, cello, or flute do ya? we all do many things to make ourselves appear more attractive/mysterious/happy etc to others, nothing intrinsically wrong w/that in my opinion. it's just that, in my experience, many people who choose to play the guitar are doing so for those very reasons on top of (or in place of) the regular motivations for learning to play music. i'm not saying it's a dishonest or bad thing to do... simply that it seems a bit silly and pretentious. |

Guitar playing is fine if you do it in your room or somewhere else where nobody will notice or hear you. I would believe that somebody actually wanted to learn how to play instead of how to get play.
I just have to wonder about those kids who sit under a tree on a college campus and strum their guitar, looking around out of the corners of their eyes, looking to see if anybody notices them. As long as there are girls dumb enough to fall for that kind of shit, there will always be a pretentious attention-whore playing a guitar. |
People who play guitar outside under a tree are trying to get attention. People who tell girls that they are hot playing guitar are trying to get their attention. Face it, guys are trying to get the attention of girls.
So, does anyone think harmonica players are sexy? We have very supple mouths and we practice tongue blocking, tongue slaps, and breath control. Maybe if I get a good response I will start practicing again (goes off to find his sheet of "blowin in the wind"). |

outdoors - pleasant place to be guitar - pleasant instrument to play Combine the two. Not everyone who plays guitar is a pretentious asshole who does it just to get sex. I sure as hell don't do it for that. |
Suave, no offense, but your arguments might come through a little stronger if your screen name was not suave. I remember in my youth a gentlemen who went by the name suave, Rico Suave. He liked to strut around in a leather jacket outside with guitar in his videos, and all the women danced. :)

 I named myself after my shampoo bottle, not the personal quality. :P I'm about as smooth as 80 grain sandpaper.
