B-day stuff...
So for the past week i have been dating a girl that i met about 3 weeks ago, and her birthday is coming up in a few days. I was wondering, if anyone had any recommendations as to what i should do for her... I have never been in the situation where a girl's birthday was so soon after we started dating.
any advice, as always, is much appreciated. mods, please move this if its in the wrong section. thanks. *edited for grammar

Agggghhh, yes, the delicate balance of appearing thoughtful etc, whilst not going overboard and appearing too heavy
I had a similar situation whilst shopping for a friends girlfriend, which has some similar pretenses. This thread could give you some ideas? Hope it works out ok for you |

I would say to pack a picnic with some wine or champagne and go to a secluded spot that offers a beautiful view. Buy her some flowers but don't go way too over board. Im guessing that she might just enjoy the effort and your company... Good luck!

Thats tricky, are you sure she wants to spend her birthday with you? I recomend you don't give her flowers (but then again I hate getting flowers). Get her something nice and neutral, try to consult it with another friend that's a girl.
I was in a similar situation with my boyfriend, and I gave him sex, but that might not work out for you.

be creative. They love thoughtful and creative - makes them think you really care and put a lot of thought into it.
You could make a gift certificate "good for dinner and movie of your choice - whenever you want". Yes, make it yourself. You could also disarm the whole situation, and your dilemma, by coming right out and saying "Since we've only been going out for 3 weeks I really didn't know what was 'appropriate'. I didn't want to scare you off, etc. etc."... "But, I figured you would really like this (hand her homemade gift certificate) and you can use it whenever you want.".. This is GOLD!!! |

thanks for all the advice. I like the certificate idea...
I consulted with some female freinds, and ill probably get her something nice but not too expesive from bath and body works or something like that. gabshu, she has already expressed a desire to stay the night with me,so perhaps sex might also be on the menu

Buy her some flowers... but not just any flowers... try to find a very rare kind as to increase the chances of it being a type she's never recieved before.

My suggestion is something not-too-serious, not-too-expensive. Let her know you're thinking about her, and that she's special. Dinner's nice, since it's early in the courtship anyway, with a little extra present. The cuter/sweeter, the better. Make sure it's something she wouldn't get from a "friend" or a family member. Good luck

I agree with the picnic... Yes, it's Boston but... you can take her to an art gallery, a museum or the symphony...
Keep it simple. You don't need to overwhelm her (as others have suggested). Go too big and you risk looking like an overbearing fool. Make something for her. If you write, write her a poem. If you draw, draw her a picture. If all else fails, a nice dinner at a resaurant you can afford, flowers and then off to the theatre (don't take her to the movies, it isn't romantic enough, don't know why the theatre is romantic it just is)
