Proposing on Valentine's Day?
I just got a call from my older cousing letting me know he'd just proposed to his girlfriend, and she said yes (like she could say no to him :-p).
It got me thinking, how do others feel about proposing or get married on Valentine's day? For those who have a hard time remembering anniversaries and such, it's the perfect solution- all the Vday marketing reminds you! Me personally though, I'd like the guy to have to work a little bit harder to make it special, or at least attempt to surprise me. Anyone care to share thoughts or stories?

I wouldn't. What message does it send? "I didn't want to wait until the time was right, and here's this holiday, so what the hell will you marry me?" I'm not crazy about that.
On the other hand, I suppose it could be pretty sweet. To each their own. But I'd rather make it special in its own right. |

I'm all for expressing your love and passion for your S.O. on Valentine's Day. Proposing on that day or on New Years is just so over-cliched and show-offs annoy me.

I have always been a fan of the proposal on the anniversary of your first date. The anniversary is like a romantic holiday that is shared only between the two of you. Unless of course your anniversary is on Valentines Day. Then you should break up with her so that you can have a new first date. Or just find someone else.

Proposing on V-day is pure, uninspired, cliche. It would be better to lead the girl on, making her think she's getting a ring for valentines, but then give it to her on the 15th, when she's not expecting it.
A coworker told me about some company, somewhere offering two separate vacations and batchelor/batchelorette nights out for a couple that got divorced on Valentine's day though. That's original. (I searched and searched the web, but couldn't find anything giving the details, anyone here heard about this?) |
