Honeymooner's Disease

My girlfriend just found out that she has Urinary Tract Infection, we have a really healthy sex life, and appearently women can get UTI really easy from having alot of sex, or forgive the word, "fingering" , which is why its called the "honeymooner's" disease. Because couples dont realize that the women needs go pee after sex or sexual activity to clean out her system of any bacteria that could cause UTI. So Im posting this to tell newly sexually active to make sure the girl goes pee afterward to avoid the high amount of pain she going through

Thanks for the advice, i wasnt really aware of the UTI, so i guess the gf is going to start peeing!

I didn't know it was called "Honeymooner's Disease"

Shit...my ex-lover seemed to get them quite often,
because we were doing it so much...unfortunately...I didn't realize it at the time.
But she's a nurse, and I guess she thought it was well worth the sacrifice. ;)

Guys can get UTI, too. Always pee after sex, no matter what gender you are. (I seriously think this is something they should teach in sex ed. because it's so important to know.)

I'm sure you heard this a billion times as a kid (women), but always wipe down. Wiping up can cause UTI as well.

Also drinking lots of cranberry or blueberry juice can help prevent, or reduce symptoms, of UTI. Drink before and after (during?) sex if at all possible. Prevention is always key.

All true. From personal experience. Although in my case it didn't _quite_ go away until I saw a doctor.

Yikes -- I'll have to remember this. Both my girlfriend and I are very sexually inexperienced, and the last thing we want is to have something like this spoil the experience.

I've heard that not only cranberry/blueberry juice, but to also apple juice is good. My wife hasn't had one in like forever (a really long time), so it must work.

Never heard that called honeymooners disease. Guess I've learned my one thing today!

It can also be caused from rough or vigorous sex because it's fairly easy to bruise the urethra. The bruising causes inflamation and makes the Urethra more susceptable to bacteria as well. The best things I've found is washing before sex, urinating afterwards, and drinking plenty of water and cranberry juice. I've also found that consuming a lot of sugary foods tends to aggravate things because it changes your body's PH and makes it more susceptable to bacteria as well.

yup we both pee afterwards. good thing thanks for the info!

Yeah, really, thanks for the advice.

rogue49 12-03-2003 02:48 PM

Yep, Cranberry juice will do the trick after the fact.

SabrinaFair 12-03-2003 03:09 PM

Yeah, I've heard of it.
I've also heard that people on vacation (probably hence the name "Honeymooners diease) tend to get UTI's more often. Has to do with having sex more often than usual or something.
Everything I need to know in life, I learned from Cosmo...(and the TFP, of course)

uv7piy 12-03-2003 07:49 PM

So that's why she drinks so much cranberry juice.

I think guys don't think about it as readily because, I know for myself, post-coital urination is a must. Something about ejaculation really makes me have to go. Great thread, and good advice. It's always a good idea to keep people up on useful information.

And just another reminder, kiddies- the "pulling out" method prevents nothing. If it works for you, it's because you've lucked out. A million accidental mothers learn that the hard way.
