A bit of a dilemme here.

I had DSL, but had to cancel it due to financial reasons. My mom's work gave her a laptop, and an internet connection, but since it's her work laptop, I'm scared I will get her fired if I go to the titty board or anything like that. Can they track where I go, and if so, is there a way I can stop it?

delete your history, and your cache and dont save the files and you should be fine, as long as you dont get caught in the act of looking.

The ISP would probably be able to provide info about which sites were visited by which IP, if requested. I just don't know if any workplaces would be anal enough about a "no-porn" policy to do that. Also, I'm not sure if that's even legal, but it'd be technically possible. I mean, the RIAA knows which music people download, ditto with the MPAA and movies.

So it's possible, but questionably legal.

I doubt you'll have any problems if you just delete your history and temp internet files. Even if they do figure it out (which I'm pretty sure they are not going to go to lengths to do) do you think they'll care? If you know for a fact that it will get her fired, don't do it. Otherwise...

it all depends on how her work has the laptop setup to connect to the internet. The could have it set so that she has to connect through a proxy or what not and then they can track what ever she ( or you ) do on the net

Don't be tempted, even flushing leaves residual avidence that is hard to extract. Also if the company is paying for the Internet connection they can trace through there as well.

I have a strict no porn policy on my work laptop which I attach to my home network. Its not worth the anguish.....ohh nad yes some companies are extremely retentive about porn to some its a sccking offence even out of hours.

Dude, get a P2P program. Dont bother with Kazaa or Morpheus. I have a internet provider that really really fuckin bitches when I visit at least ONE porn site or even a website that allows you to download mp3s. There's a P2P that's called DC++. If you're a power computer user, I highly recommend it but if you're one of those technologically challegenced people, then stick to kazaa and download cheap pron.

I only get to see my girlfriend twice or three times a week at most, so it's more for the other 4 or 5 days. But this laptop doesn't have any proxies or anything. Would something anonymizer or idzap work?

The real answer is how does your mother's laptop connect to the net? Does it go through one of the company's servers? Does she connect through a proxy or a VPN? If the answer to any of these is yes, then do not even think of using her connection to look at porn. If the company is simply paying for her to have a highspeed connection to the house (ex. pacbell dsl) then you might be safe using that connection with your computer. Do not use the laptop to look at porn.

Altiris makes a program that logs activity. Its certainly not in a class of monitoring programs by itself. In fact, there are innumberable activity monitoring software programs out there that run invisibly. Don't do it -- your Mom's IT geeks might have monitoring software running.

Good point too. While there may be no monitoring software loaded on the laptop, there is always the spectre of using a company proxy or direct internet connection. These forms of internet connectivity almost ALWAYS come with some form of access logging.

It's just not worth the risk, man. Get your fix somewhere else. Use a public library or a university network -- just don't use your Mom's stuff...

Things can be tracked, and you never really know who is looking. My business doesn't particularly care to track it, but I know others that will fire you for accessing hotmail or yahoo mail (concerns about security).

Oh I'm sure your Mother wouldn't mind getting fired just because you wanted to surf for some porn.

I wouldn't do it. As others have said, it's not worth the risk, and you never know who's looking. Get some vids or mags as already suggested.

I wouldn't do it. In fact, I know of a guy who was fired today for having porn on his PC at his workplace. There may have been ulterior motives here, but why would you even want to take the chance? (especially with ya mum!)
