Well wow, this is really interesting. Secret and I recently took a break, and about a week ago I cut my hair. It was probably down to my chest, and now it's just at my shoulders, so it was a fairly large chop. My new single status was the last thing on my mind when I got it done, I was thinking more about my really bad split ends. Although, I mean I could have gotten it cut months ago, so I suppose there could have been some subconcious force that made me go now. I have noticed more guys stop and say hi and be overall really friendly, so maybe you're on to something about flirting with girls with shorter hair. How very interesting.

Seriously, I think the whole haircutting thing is getting blown way outta proportion. Women, like guys, have their hair cut for a variety of reasons. My wife, for example, has thin hair. She likes to keep in on the shorter side because she thinks it looks silly when it's long. Personally, I think it looks nice either way.

Sorry, my hair has nothing to do with relationships. Usually, it's growing out cuz I"m too lazy to get it cut;but when I got it cut last, it was *way* short. But I live in central Texas, and it was really hot that day. Have been in stable relationship for over 2 years. It's grown out a bit now, but am getting it trimmed soon. Good luck on your hypothesis :P

I'd agree with the thought that girls cut their hair to mark events. A friend of mine cut her hair for her 21st birthday. I, on the other hand, love keeping my hair short all the time. At the moment, it's about 2" long on top and 3/4" in back, so I don't think I can go much shorter. Though I went back to spiking my hair after a rather nasty breakup with a b/f, primarily because he hated my short hair, and I felt like harassing him visually when we were in class. Common consensus I've heard is that guys don't like girls with short hair - even my female friends agree. Any comments on that?

i want to cut mine short. i never thought about why aside from being bored-i do stuff like this a lot. but i could see it being caused by a change in my life. maybe being more independent. but not less in love with my beau.

It's a control mechanism.. People often cut their hair when they feel like certain aspecets of their lives are out of control. After a breakup would fit well within that frame, as would any of many other actions. Normally that's an early step in regaining control of ones' life or emotions. and yes, that can also signal a vulnerable time for them. That does not ALWAYS make it true, but it does bend the odds that direction.
