Michigan bans sex for those under 16!

Mich. bans sex for anyone under 16

LANSING, Mich. - Sex ed in Michigan now goes beyond the birds and the bees.

The classes include lessons about jail birds, too.

The state now requires sex education classes to cover the legal consequences of underage sex. As of Oct. 1, it's a crime in Michigan to have sex with anyone under 16, even if it is consensual.

Livingston County Prosecutor David Morse says kids need to know "there are consequences beyond getting into trouble with mom and dad."

well, what can I say really? I guess I'd just like to know exactly when lawmakers forgot what puberty was like?
For some reason, people just can't get it through their heads that no matter how much they may dislike it, they can't change nature, and the bottom line to me is that when your that age, your JOB is to get away from your parents and reproduce :shrug
Instead of doing something that might actually work, like teaching about birth control and making it incredibly easy to get your hands on, they'll go ahead and ban sex...

thats like, well we think AA is stupid, so NONE you can have any alcohol, cause you might turn alkie (and we ALL know how well prohibition went over ) well mebbe not exactly like, but you get the idea...

it will be interesting to say the least on how this will play out if the DA is dumb enough to actually charge someone with this crime.

now, for the record here, I am not saying its cool for a 30 year old to bang a 15 year old, but ya know, I lost my virginity when I was 15, and ya know what, I dont see a goddamn thing wrong with two 15 year olds loving each other if thats what they wanna do, ESPECIALLY if they are smart about it...

There aren't enough words to describe how lacking in common sense this is.
Do parents chafe at the idea of daddy's angel or mom's good boy out in the car experimenting? Of course!
Is it illegal? Apparently my entire puberty period was illegal.
Can you control something so natural? About as soon as Mr. Rumsfeld announces his bid for the democratic nomination you can.

We as a country are regulating away common sense and it really scares me sometimes.

This is a very interesting argument.

I don't understand why lawmakers seem to think that they can legislate problems away. They seem to think that civil law can be binding....some news for you: civil law is only binding when its constituents (I can never spell that word) feel it is just. I think that, like weed, these laws will be ignored.

If the reason that we have laws is to defend the rights of those governed, at the expense of some of those rights (which is what government tells us laws are for), then what the HELL is this law doing? Who's rights is it defending?

You're right, not exactly like prohibition; alcohol isn't a hardwired biological urge, sex is. Trying to ban sex like this will have absolutely ZERO effect. Just another stupid law on the books that will only be enforced sporadically, and with any luck will be overturned by the supreme court the same way texas's anti-sodomy law was.

In America, yeah. We seem to be one of the few countries in this world where people are overly anal about any topic regarding sex. Our entire way of life revolves around procreation and furtherment of our species/bloodline. It's one of the core urges on the human psyche that prompts us to act the way we do through every stage of life we are in. In my eyes, this is just another religiously backed/encouraged decision made by a branch of the government. Overly religious zealots with too much time and money on their hands that can pressure people into making laws. It's almost as bad as big tobacco!

For all of the US's pluses that make this such a great country, we fall -horridly- short of being openminded and sexually advanced. Hello forced repression of basic human instincts!

Great. Make it illegal, and now EVERY fucking 14 and 15 year old (AND YOUNGER) will just be ITCHING to screw each other. FUCK doing things behind the backs of your parents, now you're also fucking (pun intended) "THE MAN". Now, in addition to not being caught by the parents, they've all got TWO things to rebel against.

When will these stupid fucking morons learn you can't counteract natural behavior by outlawing it? Especially when it comes to adolescents!! Teenagers are just DYING to get their hands on ANYTHING that they're not supposed to do but can get away with doing.

*shakes head* I am repeatedly confused to the point of temporary retardation by these people.

And yes, this is very much like the marijuana issue. Yet again, a large core of the offenders are those just doing it because it's cool to break the law, and "everyone" is doing it.

I don't think that there will be 15 year olds now saying to themselves "Well, it's illegal to have sex at my age so I MUST DO IT NOW!" That's just stupid.

I also don't think that people do drugs because it is illegal.

Personally I don't think kids under 16 should have sex in the first place. But will this law deter them? No. Will anyone ever be prosecuted under this law? I doubt it. Just like you hardly ever see statatory rape being prosecuted. Some states it's illegal for a 16 year old to have sex. So say she has sex with her 17 year old boyfriend. He could potentially do jail time.

Yes, laws are screwy. But why are kids (and yes, 15 year old's are kids) in such a damn hurry to grow up?

I sound so old...

yeah i really don't think it matters.
In perth and australia i think it's 18 for guys and 16 for girls. The girl i was first with, wasn't prosecuted for statutory rape either.

I don't think it changes things too much?

This is interesting. I have never quite understood any of our sex laws.

I'm not saying that kids should be running around fucking like bunnies, but soem laws are just ridiculous. Half of what my wife and I do is probably illegal, but why, we are both consenting adults.

Look how popular the sex based topics are on this board any many others like it. We have a culture that loves sex but has to hide it from the authorities.

Its the Puritanical culture that we still live in.

I'm fairly certain I spelled that wrong...

Nah, Averett, you're spot on today.

I think all the sex laws are because of backwards-minded parents who think their kids are immune to sexual urges and OH WHY WON'T PEOPLE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

like a law is going to stop anything.

go ahead, prosecute and make excuses of these kids. the only one who'll be embarrassed are the parents.

"did you hear, johnny and mary are on trial for having sex!"
"really? cool!!"

Is it just a coincidence that this is the state of the original puritan colonies? looks like those beliefs are still residual.
