Late period?
Ok, so my girlfriend's period is late. She says it's pretty random... usually between the 7th and the 15th. Well the 15th is past and still no period... I'm fairly confident that she's not pregnant, but I guess I'm not 100% sure... so I guess you could say I'm a little worried.
Anyway, my question is... is it normal to have a late period? and... how long should I wait before buying a pregnancy test? Thanks. |

Is she on birth control? If she's taking the pill and not regularly enough, that can change her rhythm.
Is she fully grown? Oftentimes people don't fully mature until their 20s. Any change in hormone levels during a growth spurt can influence her pattern. I'd say wait a few more days (3-4), then get two otc tests. If they say you're in the clear and she's not feeling nauseous or any other common symptoms of pregnancy, I'd say you're pretty safe. adisca.
had this very smae thing happen to me just a few days ago. i had unprotected sex for just a few strokes with a girl visiting from pennsylvania (im in CA) i didnt cum or anything but when she got home her period was late we talked on AIm a lot both of us pretty freaked out. but it was all ok in the end after the stress of waiting for her period to finally come i think it would be worthwhile to jut be safe in the future. and as soon as the male birth control pill is availible im getting on it. i think that the most sensitive home pregnancy tests say they work as little as six days after fertilization but fertilization can happen for a while after tha actual sex so i would say with one of the top quality tests you should wait about 2 weeks. good luck i know how you feel. The test utilizes unique antibodies that are specific for hCG, enabling it to be a highly sensitive and accurate test. With the Puralin One-step Pregnancy Test, pregnancy can be determined as early as the first day of a woman's missed period. I'm sure there are other early pregnancy tests out there like this one. I wouldn't wait as long as 2 weeks to take some tests! By then, she could be well into her first trimester.

Thanks motdakasha, that's really helpful. And THANK YOU nosuchagent, because that's exactly what happened and it's stressing me out lately.
I guess I'll watch for the symptoms for a few days and then pick up the tests. You guys say to do two... do you mean two of the same test or is it better to get two different ones? ... and I assume I should get the most sensitive test? Oh, nosuchagent... if you don't mind me asking, how late was her period? Last edited by adisca; 08-16-2003 at 08:51 AM.. |

well she was expecting it around the 7th but it didnt actualy start untill the 14th , and motdakasha
its probably right sorry for my innacuracies, but sometimes it takes several days for fertilization to occur i was just saying that if you take the test sooner than that you will get a false negative, but i guess my timescale was a bit off. |
