Condoms

Ok, so where do you get them? How do you know what size to get?

angela146 08-13-2003 08:04 PM

Nervous about shopping for them? So was hubby the first 10 times. I ended up buying them for us. I don't know why but it's easier for a woman to not get laughed at.

Drug stores and adult toy stores have lots of variety. In an adult toy store, a condom is about the least embarrassing thing you can buy, so it might make it easier.

hobo 08-13-2003 08:30 PM

Nice tip about the adult toy store. I'll remember that.

skysooner 08-13-2003 09:19 PM

You will eventually get used to not being embarassed. I usually go to a drug store for when I actually need them, because generally they are easier to find in most towns. Adult shops are great for condoms, toys, outfits, etc., but the prices tend to be higher than a drug store chain and the people there can be a bit strange. The big plus though is that the people there will be very non-judgmental like Angela said.

kalashnikov 08-13-2003 09:30 PM

My college gives them out for free at the health department, so I just go there every few weeks and grab a handful or too.
Note: Despite size names (normal, large, elephantine, etc) I have found them to all be pretty similar. Obviously, if your blood flow gets cut off from it too tight or it is slipping off from being to big, change the size, but I think overall it is just a marketing thing.

I've noticed this, too. I can fit fine into both a regular Durex and a Magnum. I concur that it's a marketing ploy :)

EROK81? 08-13-2003 10:49 PM

I disagree.
There is NO way in hell the regular size fits me. I have even gone into the bathroom to try and wrestle it on, no dice.

On a side note....you think you feel emabarassed. The last few times I have been to the grocery store all I have purchased is a 12 pack (or more) of been and a box of condoms. Some how I manage to get the same cashier every time. She looks at me strange and gets uncomfortable everytime!

ive seen some one fit one over there head, regular size, no lube

no dice

JStrider 08-14-2003 12:28 AM

well when i first had to buy em... i would go to rite aid or albertsons... they are back by the pharmacy so i would get it there and check out and have it put in a little prescription bag... so i didnt have to cary it around where it could be seen...

now i just swing by the condom rack in walmart and grab the "family econo pack" toss it in the cart and push it all over the store...

i usually get the trojan ribbed ones... somewhere i heard they were least likely to break... and that all the enhanced pleasure ones were thinner and more likely to break...

StormBerlin 08-14-2003 12:39 AM

You can order them off the internet, but be prepared to pay way more than at a store.

Markaz 08-14-2003 01:33 AM

Why are you embarassed? Go to the store, get the ones that will fit you, and buy em! You're embarassed? Jeuss, the guy at the counter probobly has never even TOUCHED a boob!

As for the condoms running small, its because asshats get embarassed they have a small weeny, and they buy ex large because they feel bad. If you're small, make up for it in how you use it, and oral...

Why would someone laugh at you buying condoms? You're the one getting the sex! Now if he was buying a penis pump, I could understand...

asshopo 08-14-2003 05:59 AM

Just goto a store that has those automatic check out lanes. Just get your goods, goto the automated lane, scan it yourself, pay with cash, go home and use em.

Loup 08-14-2003 06:00 AM

What would you be worried about if the cashier (or others) knows that you're buying condoms? At least you are taking the responsibility of purchasing protection for yourself.

denim 08-14-2003 06:19 AM

Agreed. Buying condoms is nothing to be embarassed about! If the cashier gets uncomfortable, (1) how do you know, and (2) how is that your problem? Fuck 'em.

Personally, I'd enjoy buying them that way. It'd be funny to plink this person, but then maybe I'm evil. :D

In fact, now that I think about it, IIRC the first times I bought the things were from females. They didn't seem to have much of an issue with it. I think that if they did I might have suggested I help them get over what was bothering them. :p :p :p How? By increasing their familiarity with the things. And with my personal condom-wearing appendage.

Vyk 08-14-2003 08:25 AM

just head on over to the local drugstore and buy some. It's emberassing the first few times but it gets better. Plus, as others have pointed out, you're getting some so be proud haha

I'd probably avoid the gas station or machines. At least, make sure you can read the expiration date. Those old balloons can pop.

erion 08-14-2003 12:31 PM

Worry not about judgement. If people are scornful of you for being responsible and buying condoms then there can only be a handful of reasons why.

1) an unenlighted sense of sexual morality
2) The fact that you need condoms means you are most likely getting some. They, most likely, are not. 8)

HeAtHeN 08-14-2003 12:37 PM

I get mine from Wal-Mart. Its never bothered me buying them as its our chosen form of contraception.

I know you might feel strange, but for everyone laughing, how many of them have or know someone who has a child at an early age. Or even worse AIDS or any other STD you care to name.

Be smart and be safe and be proud of that fact.

dragonhawk 08-14-2003 12:42 PM

Sams Club has 40 packs of Trojans for about $10.00

Cheaper than our wal-mart :)

micah67 08-14-2003 01:36 PM

Just go up to the pharmacist and say in a loud voice, "Hi, can I have a box of the EXTRA LARGE, Oh-My-God-size, John Holmes condoms? And a box of rubber bands? Thanks!"

motdakasha 08-14-2003 02:04 PM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Planned Parenthood. If you go to Planned Parenthood and get a physical exam (or tests, or anything really) they'll give you assloads of condoms for free in an unlabeled paper bag. If you are going to be having sex, you should get an exam/tested anyways, so it's like killing two birds with one stone. Usually, if you don't qualify for free treatment, the payment fees are extremely low in comparison to other places for what you're getting.

If you're not sure where the nearest Planned Parenthood is, just google it. Try "Planned Parenthood Ontario Canada"

im2smrt4u 08-14-2003 02:08 PM

I get mine at Wal-mart. All the drug stores are overpriced! The medium box (12?) at the drug store cost me just about as much as the HUGE box (36+4 free) from Wal-Mart.

I got a funny look when I went up to the checkstand with a giant box of condoms and a big bottle of Astroglide, but that was nothing compared to the time I was there with a friend and he bought condoms, a machette, and some water ballons! LOL!

zubrei 08-14-2003 02:12 PM

Never been embarassed when buying them. Remember guys if a bloke is serving you he thinks "Lucky Bloke". No problem.

If a girl is serving you then she thinks you're an allright guy as you have a partner. Remember when you're in a relationship you always get more offers off women than you do when single.

I've actually taken to buying mine off the internet, because they are way cheaper than at the store. I get them in quantity, and every time i order i get 12 genera brand ones free, and they cost way less. The site i use is called: www.ripnroll.com

I highly suggest it.

Oh yeah, if you order from them more than once, if you just put in your customer number, you get 10% off every time. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

motdakasha 08-14-2003 08:07 PM

My only concern about buying from online is heat damage. Unless you are guaranteed that they are shipped at a controlled temperature at all times (like Kodak delivery trucks since film can also get heat damage) than it is highly likely that your condoms are cooking in the storage area of a delivery truck. Heat will damage a condom and increase the chances of breaking. Ever leave a balloon out in the sun for too long? You're not even supposed to keep it in your pocket because your body heat can damage it!

Kind of off-topic, but related to heat damage: When I bought some photographic paper from the east coast (I'm on the west coast), it was extremely heat damaged. To me, this is evidence of the fact that where they store things during delivery oftentimes will get hot and so would not be trustworthy.
