Corset
I have wanted a corset forever and now that I'm feeling more confident about my body, I'd like to get one. But I'm not sure exactly where to go, and I have some questions that maybe you folks could help me with:
1. what waist size to get for a beginner? My waist is about 28" now, though it will probably go back down to 26" when I start dragging my ass back to the gym. 2. what's the best shape/style for someone who's small-busted (32A) and pear-shaped? I don't want one with cups that I won't fill out. I'd prefer something that pushed my breasts up and gave me a bit of cleavage over the top of the corset. 3. where to buy? I don't want to spend a fortune. I don't want something cheap-ass but I'd love to pay as little as possible. What can I expect to pay? I've seen anywhere from $135 for some pretty basic ones to over $600 for custom-made ones in pretty expensive fabrics. Can I buy from the web or should I go to a shop and get fitted? I can't imagine there's a shop anywhere around here - Raleigh-Durham, NC. Then again, I might be surprised. Thanks! And if I get one I'll be sure to post photos.

I know next-to-nothing about corsets, but I'm assuming you'd want one fitted to make sure it is exactly right for your body...
Secondly I wonder: why have you wanted a corset "for ever"? Good luck on finding what's right for you!

Are you wanting to have a corset to wear every now and then, or are you wanting to start corset training? That's the main influence on what you buy, I think. My wife's breasts are small also, and I think she looks fine in a valentine style, but it really doesn't do a lot to enhance, more just squish. If you want something that accentuates instead of minimizes your breasts, you might look at pointed and underbreast styles where the fabric doesn't go above your ribs. Also are you wanting a classic material corset, or a b&d leather/poly corset?

I just have to say. I think corsets are one of the sexiest pieces of clothing a woman can wear..
Yes I know they are hard to get off and sometimes terribly uncomforatble But they really doit for me..

1. I've wanted one for a long time because damn they look sexy, and I think I would like the feel of the constriction.
2. I don't want to do waist training, just something to wear to feel sexy now and then. Another question for those with experience: busk or no busk?

Ok, if you're not doing training, you don't really need to be fitted. As for where to get one, we picked ours up at a lingerie/sex store for around $150, I think.
Speaking from a purely male point of view, I like the busk...the little line of flesh is great. It really depends on how you think it looks, and how much constriction you want(if you want constriction tight enough to cause anything more than a small amount of pain, if any, a busk isn't for you.) Another point in favor of the busk is that there will be times when all is said and done that you're ready to be out of your corset asap. btw I know this site has several corsets on it I think, and the sysop is very helpful with any questions you might have, service is great too: http://www.sub-shop.com/catalog/frameset.cfm

My wife bought one (just before she was last pregnant) and she has a body very much like your own (I've seen the pictures )
She got her's from a retailer and spent around 150 to 200. She looks great in it but won't wear it right now because she feels her stomach is too flabby...

My favorite place to go is Stormy Leather in San Francisco. You'll find that people who work there are very informative and helpful with any questions that you may have about proper fitting, waist cinching, or just buying something relatively inexpensive and stylish.
I'm not sure if they sell things online, but if you're ever in town, this would be the place to go. Feel free to drop me a line if you're in the city, too! I still have my eyes on this sexy rubber dress that I've been meaning to buy as an early birthday gift for myself. ...so I guess my best advice is to go someplace in person and try one on to get an idea of what you want before you commit to buying anything online and such. Good luck!

Ahhhh - corsets... yum!
Being a large girl I love what wearing a corset does for my figure. Having large breasts the waist cinchers are more practical for me rather than overbust corsets because they squish my tits up and give me a ledge to rest my chin on.. handy for a quick nap but not very sexy. If you're pear shaped, most corsets will add cleavage as long as they're over the bust ones. Great things about a well-made corset is that they'll pull in the tummy and waist line as well. Va va voooooooooom! The best corset I've owned (and still do) is a Vollers corest. This is a UK company and they export all over. http://www.vollerscorset.co.uk/homepage.html A place in Australia which makes quite nice, not-so-expensive corsets (their quality has imporved way out of site in the 6 years they've been operating). http://www.galleryserpentine.com/ My own personal advise would be to not buy a corset from a sex shop or anywhere that doesn't specialise in boned corsets. Alot of "corsets" that sex and lingerie shops sell aren't proper corsets. ie. they're not properly boned (have tacky plastic boning which just bend and don't hold) and won't shape your figure at all. If you're a skinny girl this might not matter but if you do want some constriction and shape you want proper boning. I've seen a couple of gorgeous corsets over here from Stormy leather - ahh, if only I had the dollars. *drool* As you're planning on losing weight go for a corset that would be suitable for the smaller waistline, the great thing about lacing is it allows for extra inches without ruining the look. Some other sites which may help: http://www.absolutecorsets.com/ http://www.meschantes.com/ Fabric corsets, especially in some of the brocades and velvets are just so yummy and elegant and can turn a simple skirt into an evening gown. And! Another site with a stack of corset links: http://www.victoriancorsets.de/corsets/links/links.htm love to hear how you go! |

Ahhh corsets yes I know all about those
I play a wench in a medievel metal band, so I wear one everytime we have a show. I have about 6 or so in my collection. I have found for really putting smaller chest size up is ones with straps. The renissance kind. I really enjoy the lacing in the back, makes things look really good.
I also did alot of searching on the internet. I came across a little shop in New York online that has several sizes, styles. Just go to a search engine and put in a color and corset/bodice and you wouldn't believe what you get back. The ones I have are all fabric and have run from $35 to $80. I am gonna save up for a leather one next!! I love them and wish I could get tons more!! |

First off, I'm totally, completely confused by the term "corset training." If anyone wants to give me a simple, one-liner reply, I'd love to know about it.
Second, lurkette, you're beautiful. As a guy, I have no idea how women could seriously doubt their body image, but I really bet it has a lot to do with formative years, and the media in general. Don't worry so much about it and just enjoy it. I know, that's not so easy, but just relax, hon. Finally, I bout shot a mouthful of Hefeweizen on my monitor when I saw collide's avatar...HAHAHA...Holy shit was that funny. |
