Bike riding and the clit

When writing a response to a thread, I thought of a think that I had had none too many months ago~ :hmm:

Think of the connection between groin and saddle (on a bicycle) and then post your personal experience (perhaps even theories) regarding desensitization of the clitoris and bike riding...... Any ideas?

I'll tell ya mine, er, how I got to thinking this. See, I've rode bikes since I was wee and in elementary school - everywhere! Now, I have an EXTREMELY difficult time getting off. Even when I feel damn sexy and my entire body is sweating, where's the electricity from down below? nada Even when the touching is new to the night (girls, you know, the build up, and then down goes -whatever- and then the immediate moment contact is made:crazy: ) It just doesn't seem to drive me as crazy as it does other girls.....

maybe you just haven't found the right man (or woman) to really get you going? maybe it's just more psychological?

i read something once that connected bike riding to impotence in men, i guess the pressure in that area can compress nerves or something leading to it. i don't ride bikes anymore.

what aboput horse riding then eh?

PhoenixFire 07-15-2003 06:01 AM

Yeah, thought about horse riding too (also something I do), but whereas the weight in bike riding is distributed over groin and ass and feet, the weight in horse riding is distributed over groin and ass and inner thighs (and feet). Good idea though~ Still could be a factor.

Yes this is true indirectly at least. I have a friend who professionally rides bicycle. A 30 mi ride is nothing to him. Because of the amount of riding he's done he has actually damaged the prostate causing mild incontinance. He takes medication to help control that and the MEDICATION causes some problems with getting an erection. He sometimes takes a while to get hard and he doesn't stay hard real well sometimes. I don't know if it directly affects getting an erection but it does indirectly because the medication to treat other problems causes it.

and the moral of the story is - buy a fast car!

Dr. Goldstein has postulated that chronic perineal pressure, which is pressure in the area between the vagina and the rectum, can actually cause decreased blood flow to the vagina and clitoris and can be the result of riding a bicycle.
more here

Haven't got a clue who Dr.m Goldstein is, but the same concept is referred to in other pages as a cause of incontinence (google).

If you're really worried about this I'd suggest you consult a physician or a bicycle specialist about a aergonomic saddle. Just say you need a good one for a hike through the mountains or something like that :)

GET A GOOD SEAT! I have been mountainbiking seriously for 10 years and a 30 mile ride is nothig, I do one every Sunday. I was worried about the cause of the constant pressure in the viens that supply the blood to the penis. I bought a seat that has a hole in the center where your crotch sits, basicly for a man from your rectum to the base of the penis. This is where the control valves are located for an erection. Women can have the same problmes in away, numbness and loss of feeling. Go to a pro cycle shop and get a good seat if you plan on still riding, you might also look into getting a gel cover that fits over your saddle and gives you a nice soft cushion. I remember having it fall alseep when riding and thinking this is not a good sign, got a good saddle and he works like a trooper.

possible, bike seats cause problems for guys too but im not sure. it seems like a good theory

Actually, a soft saddle or gel cover is a bad idea - it will just allow things to squish up into the perineal area and cause pressure.

You want as firm a saddle as you can tolerate, with pressure just on your sit bones and nowhere else; either a very flat wide saddle or one with cutouts. I ride on a literally bare plastic saddle, no cushioning, the most comfy saddle I've had aside from a recumbent.

Who else thought this thread would be full of good stories of women acheiving orgasm from riding bikes?

07-18-2003 09:39 PM

Back when i wasn't fat and lazy I rode often. I can remember severe pain in the prostate region from long bumpy rides, or the unexpected pothole, combined with numbness, tingling, and inability to maintain an erection. One would have to assume a similar response in women, right?

nulltype 07-18-2003 09:42 PM

Wow. I can no longer see any reason for riding bikes and I pity those who do. For that kind of danger, I'm certain I could find exercise much friendlier to my reproductive organs that would also be less boring.

Sticky, I was hoping so too.
