Women may ovulate more than once a month
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - No wonder the rhythm method does not work so well for birth control -- scientists in Canada said on Tuesday they had found women sometimes ovulate several times a single month.
Their finding, if verified, would overturn the traditional wisdom that women produce an egg cell once a month. It would also help explain why "natural" methods of birth control, based on the idea that ovulation can be predicted, often fail. full article --> link |

ok i might be steeping into dangerous territory here, but this doesn't have anything to do with or any justification for women acting irrationally/moody more than once a month (ala PMS) *hides*
ok, i thought about it for a bit, but i think i am brave/stupid enough to leave that there. Please don't take it to heart, its jutst a little joke. Nevertheless, on a more serious note, i think its quite interesting that they only discovered it now. |

Two Things:
1) I think this kind of thing just goes to show how poor an understanding of the human body functions (both male and female) we truly have, which is why I generally don't trust modern medicine. If you're only having sex when the woman's body doesn't have an egg ready, can we really say that the autonomous nervous system isn't "smart" enough to compensate for that? The purpose of the reproductive organs is, after all, to reproduce. Stupid Catholic Rhythm Method (no offense to anyone, but I am a recovering Cathoholic -- Pope-free since 1994!) 2) It isn't the ovulation that overstresses the woman's body and causes what has become known as PMS. It's the process of getting rid of the stuff needed to get pregnant (uterine lining, extra fluid, etc) that causes PMS. That usually only happens once a month. |

As I understand it (and I might be completely wrong), PMS is caused by the normal hormonal fluctuations that allow ovulation and menstruation to occur.

There's nothing new about a woman ovulating more than once a month (or ovulating early in the month).
It's called "stress ovulation". It happens during intense excitement. If a woman "gets it" really good, ala the "swept off her feet" feeling, it can trigger an extra egg right then and there. It's all part of evolution: strong men make healthy babies and protect "their" women from bad guys. Unfortunately, it doesn't not have to be an intensive *positive* experience to trigger it. Getting raped can cause an ovulation. That's one reason that raped women are encouraged to get a D&C. |

May?? I have no knowledge behind this "ovulation" concept other than the norm but with every individual women it should vary. It can not be set to just once a month. Ladies, you seriously need to get into the doctor field and tell the guy's what's up. We (men) don't know everything about the woman's body, we can only speculate or investigate.
