have we become more vain/self absorbed.
this irks me a lot.
i understand that the internet has opened up doors for people to do things they wouldn't be able to achieve, but cut throat industry's like modeling are there for a reason. now we can rate who is hot or not with the click of a button, and scorn those for even trying to model. everyone wants to be famous. that's the problem. i was reading this article, and it really just irked me that people would fight for attention so hard. why does everyone want to be famous? has the internet made us more vain than ever before?? |

No, but perhaps it has given us an outlet for the potential vanity that exists in all of us.

Everyone doesn't want to be famous, but the 'net does create opportunity for almost everyone to have 15 minutes if they want it. It doesn't irk me, though. That 15 minutes of fame often ends up becoming a joke within weeks.

What? Self Absorbed? Who Cares? I'm hot.
Yes, I think many of the generational changes are bringing about means for people to be more superficial. A lot of people are within the MTV generation, which, pretty much promotes vainglorious behavior. Top it off with a little myspace, a little facebook, a little attention from the opposite sex and voila. Perfect storm of vanity . |

We have always been this vain. The Internet just makes it easier.
Easy. Fast. Copious.

"Everyone" wants to be famous, because the media shoves frivolous popular culture down the throats of the younger generation, making it seem as if your life is shit unless you're rich and famous. I honestly believe that these school shootings that keep happening are one symptom of this - kids would rather kill others and themselves rather than face a life of obscurity. If that was not a motivator, then these kids would not see any need for leaving behind media packets or YouTube videos.
