I was checking my Google news feed and this article came up:

I found the journal article linked in the Fox News more interesting, but the anonymous cards were the reason for the posting.

Now the question is: how would you feel about getting an anonymous "You have an STI/D" in your inbox?

I'd be very, very, very displeased. Not that I'd be significantly happier to hear it in person, but it'd be infinitely less embarrassing in person than via email, imho. I think it's a cop out.

Better than leaving me to find out on my own though, I guess.

It already has been. I just sent it to five people I don't like.

It seems cowardly to me, but if it's the only way you're going to tell someone it's certainly better than nothing.

it will also get munched by many spam folders/blockers.

Seriously, I know that during the 90's when you were tested for AIDS,
they refused to tell you the results over the phone, + or -.
The idea was when they see you, if you are + (for whatever), they
could offer counseling, treatment options, etcetera...

I still think that's a good idea.

This seems like the only reason for this kind of service at all. At least people will be informed.

That's almost as bad as breaking it off with a SO via text message. Maybe they can use the extra money they saved on transportation and buy some taco bell.

Definitely a rediculous system. There are folks out there who might just use it seriously, otherwise it wouldn't exist.

this could have some serious effects on vulnerable people. It's also a cop-out and sucks. If you have something to say, say it to my face. I like the direct approach.

Not a fan of this, whatever happened to phone conversations and meeting in a public place (so they can't yell at or hit you!)
