Join the Resistance: Fall in Love
I wasn't sure if I should post this on the 'Entertainment' section, since it's about a film. I decided against that, since the film is just a way of expressing something much bigger, something which could equally go under 'Politics', 'Living', 'Philosophy' or even 'Paranoia'. Anyway, it has 'love' in the title, so I settled for here, besides which, there's lots of sex in the video, so 'Sexuality' seemed doubly like the best place.
I couldn't find a thread that covered it, but I hope I'm not replicating. Basically, read http://www.crimethinc.com/library/english/join.html but, better still, watch http://submediatv.com/movies/jtr_mp4.mov I really want to know what other people think - before I go off on a rant. Firstly [oh, so here I go off on the rant already], I realise it isn't covering new ground, though since it deals with the grand, unanswerable questions ('does love conquer all?', 'all you need is love[?]' among others), I can't see there being any harm in continuing the discussion. Secondly, it would take 5 minutes to make a bullet point list of the flaws of such a culture/civilisation, i.e. 'whilst everyone is making love, who's going to fight fires?', thus crushing the sentiment of the piece entirely. The film-makers are aware of this, I'm sure (no-one is that stupid), so what is the film really endeavouring to do? It touched me, but I can't put my finger on why. Should we try to make little changes in our everyday lives? Is that it? Finally, did anyone see Perfume? To link back to the earlier 'grand questions', what is that movie trying to say? Is all this sex just a shock tactic? So, what do you think? |
