I saw O'rielly last night...
 

I don't have cable, so I don't watch much tv and hardly ever watch any cable news. I get most of my news from the radio, local paper, and the internet. Now I was over at a friend's house last night, flipping through the channels and I came across fox news channel and mr orielly was on so I stopped flipping for a second to check it out. and low and behold he has a segment called "Talking Points Memo" HA. It all came to me. No wonder roach and other libs on this board keep saying "sounds like a talking points memo"

I don't remember what the content was. I wasn't really too involved. I was just flipping through. I really can't even tell you what he was talking about. But I just understood why people keep saying talking point memo. For the last year or whatever I had been under the impression that a talking points memo was some satiricle notion thought up to poke fun at conservatives because we can't think for ourselves and need limbaugh and orielly to regurgitate talking points to us that were written up by rove the night before.

Now I understand that "talking point memo" is a segment on orielly's show and thats where that comes from. man, I'm so naive.

Now it makes me laugh when I think about it. I've read a number of times replies to my posts telling me they sound like talking points memo's. Either I'm unknowingly consuming these "talking points" in via another medium or I come to similar conclusions that other conservatives come to using my own brain.

I'm not sure if it originated with oreilly, but he definitely has bumped its useage up into mainstream political discussion.

However, his talking points memos are about hte same as those you do hear on radio talk shows, blogospheres, almost any forum where conservatives speak. He rarely has something different except in recent times when he mentioned that the oil companies should be 'limited' by gov't for the good of the country. Basically suggesting profit caps bc htey are robbing the normals.

I'm sure his points are similar to others I may here...I was just suprised to learn that he actually has a segment called Talking Points Memo...

i listen to and read a lot of conservative stuff, and i don't find it all that repetative, as though there were no original thinking going on at all. i find the same with liberal thought. so often we hear and see what we want to, thru our custom colored glasses.
i think there are too few oil companies, and the lack of competition is hurting the consumer. but the gov has made it impossible for new companies to start up, due to over regulation. imho

It's really not all that surprising that most of you have no concept of what "talking points" means as it relates to politics. It's also not surprising that you've never actually watched O'Reilly and related his talking points memo to your pre-conceived notion of what you think someone of a different political persuasion relys on. Ironically enough, consider this your own lesson in a real "talking point."

Bill O'Reilly didn't coin the term. It's not a coincidence his show is political and he uses that as a segway into his show.

Yes, actually. Which is more than I can say for your post. Are people dumb because they watch O'Reilly? Or because they're liberal? What is your point, other than that your thought process is far superior?

I used to watch O'Riley for the unintentional humor. Seriously, at times he's high comedy. But more and more he just seemed stupid/pathetic. And after repeatedly seeing the atrocity that is Greta Van Sustren's (sp?) show, I finally had to stop watching Fox on the off chance that I would see that foul show. I still occasionally will try to watch Fox News Watch (which I think is a seriously fair and balanced look at how news is covered, unlike many of Fox's other "fair and balanced" fare which is little more than shouting matches) but it's no longer one of my default channels.

Bill O'reilly is a jackass. What was it that he got busted doing like a year ago? Wasn't it sexual harassment of one of his employees saying dirty things over the phone to her?

I don't mind O'reilly, on the off chance that i watch his show, i usually enjoy it, watching him tear down someone is entertaining. He is a very good debater, really dominates any conversation. As to the phrase, it's nothing more than a phrase, and as to where it comes from, i don't know if O'reilly was the first to coin it, never given it much thought really.
