Virginia's "Traditional Marriage" License Plate

Here's to taking shots at gays all for the sake of pettiness.

Quote:

The House of Delegates is closer to approving the legend "Traditional Marriage" for specialty license plates despite warnings it could lead to plates celebrating unconventional forms of marriage.

The House today shrugged off an amendment that would have removed the word "Traditional", and advanced the bill for a final vote tomorrow.

Opponents argue that if a traditional marriage license plate is allowed, other viewpoints will have to be given the same forum. They say lawmakers could see requests for "Gay Marriage" or "Marriage Equality" plates.

The first openly homosexual House member, Adam Ebbin of Alexandria, says he was asked to introduce a bill for a "Marriage Equality" plate but refused because he doesn't believe license plates should be a public forum.

as soon as they allow one kind of speech...it's pretty much all in.

tons of states have done this, had the requests for plates on the other side come in, and then repented of the madness. Looks like it's VA's turn.

Virginia and their stupid personalized plates. I might be wrong, but I think they have the most per capita. I know I sure saw a ton when I went to college down there.

This plate? Just assinine. If they allow it, they'll have to allow the "Gay Marriage" and such plates.

Virginia is for Lovers

Remember that one............perhaps it is time for a little revision.

"Virginia is for Lovers"*

* The above statement is meant as an endorsement only of traditional lovers, as defined by its interpretaion of the christian texts and is in no way intended to condone or justify the abominations of gay, lesbian, animal,or unmarried by the state of Virginian love. The State of Virginia retains the right to define the term "Love" and "Lovers" as seen fit by the judiciary of said State, and will change said definition as we see fit. Any resemblance to the generic term "Love" or "Lovers" is completely coincidental and has no bearing whatsoever on reality, as defined by the rest of the world.

First it was Pro-Life customized plates...now this. What the hell ever happened to just having a bumper sticker?

I treasure the UK plate laws. Funny letter combinations - yes. Politics at 70 mph - no.

Very good question. I thought the purpose of license plates was identification. Somewhere along the way, it changed to who can come up with the biggest political statement. If the VA politicians want to express their views on marriage, rent space in the paper or hold a press conference. License plates are not good forums for personal beliefs.

Time to fill out an Ap for my "Sodomites Unite" plates.....

The thing that kills me is that the state of VA actually employs people to check to see if requested vanity plates have some hidden dirty message, they even use mirrors. Personally I think these stupid plates are at least as offensive as PUSSFUKR or CL1TL1KR!

With the divorce rate so high maybe the plate should read, "Traditional Marriages".

JumpinJesus 02-01-2005 05:30 PM

I got no problem with them printing "Traditional Marriage" on their plates, as long as they use one of those neat little images of a two families exchanging a girl for a bag of grain and an ox.
