Is enthusiasm really necessary?

By now, anyone with two neurons to rub together has figured out that I could care less who was running against the current occupant of the whitehouse, I will vote for him. But I can't get excited about it. Eight years of John Kerry is going to be bleak, but that beats catastrophic any day. In any case, I have run across a couple of websites that show pretty clearly that A) I am not alone in this predicament and B) you don't have to think much of Kerry to think more of him than Bush.

And with that, let me refer you to:
<a href="http://www.johnkerryisadouchebagbutimvotingforhimanyway.com">johnkerryisadouchebagbutimvotingforhimanyway.com</a>
This is actually a fairly well thought out set of essays, written in such a way that your average college freshman football scholarship/making strange noises with your armpit major could understand and appreciate it. It also has the distinction of being the longest url I have ever seen.

Now, JKIADBBIVFHA.com doesn't really say that John Kerry is a douchebag. (He actually says just that, but goes on to prove that either he isn't, or it really doesn't matter that he is.) However, <a href="http://www.kerryhatersforkerry.com/">Kerry Haters For Kerry</a> make no bones about how little they like the man. They just like the alternative less. And they have some brilliant bumper stickers:
<img src="http://www.kerryhatersforkerry.com/helldo.jpg">
<img src="http://www.kerryhatersforkerry.com/nuances.jpg">
<img src="http://www.kerryhatersforkerry.com/flipflop.jpg">

Maybe this belongs in nonsense, maybe not. Let me suggest that a worthwhile line of discussion is whether having people express this kind of backhanded, lukewarm support is a good or a bad thing for Kerry. (For me, I would have preferred a Dean/Edwards or Dean/Clarke ticket.)

tophat, unfortunately, I think you grossly underestimate the amount of damage Kerry will do if elected.

I'm not terribly enthused about Bush, but Kerry would be an unmitigated disaster.

People seem to mistake ambivalence towards Kerry for approval of Bush. I voted for Nader the last two times but the sheer blundering of Bush has scared me into voting Kerry. I may disagree with Kerry on many issues but that doesn't mean that Bush's stances are more acceptable to me.

Why would we have 8 years of Kerry? I certainly hope not. Just remember, he isn't very well liked even by some of those that are going to vote for him. He's going to be on the razor's edge. The Repubs will have 4 years to groom a potential candidate to be more appealing to the public. Hell, you don't know for sure that he will be elected, so it's pretty far out to suggest that we're going to have 8 years under him.

I don't care too much for kerry, but he knows the meaning of hard work, as opposed to knowing how to complain about having to work hard.

He does? How do you figure? Has he EVER held a private sector job? Nope, he's been sucking on the Government teat since he was literally a teenager.

BTW, what do you make of the recent revelations that Kerry originally received a less than honorable discharge, and had to wait until Carter became President for it to be changed to honorable? That surely does explain why Kerry will not sign the form to release those 100 pages of military documents to the public....

Well, seeing as how bush was born wealthy, did poorly in school and failed as a businessman...

I don't know, sucking on the government teat, to me, is more respectable than sucking on daddy's teat.

Anyways, i could care less about kerry and vietnam, just like i could care less about bush and vietnam.

the sad thing to me is...the Dem's had all those years to groom someone to run against Bush and Kerry was the best they could come up with.

Obama's on the way!

But seriously, damn straight. I don't know anyone who is, "excited," about Kerry. I've seen him in person twice; last night I went to his rally that drew 16,000 people. But I felt goddam great voting early absentee for him in a swing state. Don't underestimate the power of the Anybody But Bush argument. It has one really, really valid argument.
