Question about Al Sadr in Najaf
I remember reading a story about a group of locals in Najaf showing resistanceto AL Sadr earlier this summer... kidnapping some of Al Sadr's army but I can't find any information on this. Does anybody remember this or am I going insane?

Al-Sadr is not universally popular in Iraq.
Many many Iraqis resent him, and his father who was assassinated. He does not represent the majority Shi'ite population either. But he is getting kudos from many Iraqis because he is resisting the US occupying forces. It's a bad situation. Remove him and you create lots of problems and create a martyr or imprisioned hero. Leave him alone and you risk increased foment and more insurgency. Pity GWB never considered a post Iraqi invasion plan or exit strategy. :/ Mr Mephisto |
