Who is next?

If Bush is reelected do you think the US will go after another country who isn't bending to it's will? And if so which country will be his next target?

i'm abstaining from the poll. the way the question and leading post frame the poll... it seems to assume some premises i am uncomfortable starting from.

Rekna 09-12-2004 10:02 AM

haha i can't believe canada has 2 votes ;)

For once, I agree with ya.

Rekna 09-12-2004 11:11 AM

What premise are you refering to?

The first question is if bush is reelected. the second question is where will we go next if we go somewhere else. There is an option for no one also.

Iran.

: puts 10 dollars on the table: I'll give anyone 2 to 1 odds. Any takers?

Scipio 09-12-2004 12:40 PM

The problem is this whole premise that we're knocking over unfriendly countries one by one. It just isn't the case. There is no "next."

Iran is slightly different then Iraq. Change will come from within, people there are really starting to realize what's going down, especially after their last elections.

Seriously though they would be wise to keep their nuclear plans in check, I am just as afraid of Iran having nukes, if not more, then Korea.

Also get your eff'ing hands out of Iraq.

I doubt Canada will be attacked.

Reminds me of the very hilarious movie Canadian Bacon (Micheal Moore directed it).

"In this wacky satire on the cold war mentality, the president of the United States and an arms manufacturer find it in their best economic interests to plant rumors of a potential nuclear attack--by Canada. Then, following a border incident at a hockey tournament, a patriotic sheriff and his deputies plan a counteroffensive...with hilarious results. Directed by activist-writer-television mogul Michael Moore, CANADIAN BACON combines the talents of John Candy and Dan Aykroyd with such actors and comedians as Steven Wright, Rip Torn, and James Belushi. The film is reminiscent of the terrific Peter Sellers vehicle THE MOUSE THAT ROARED, which dealt with the Duchy of Grand Fenwick declaring war on the United States in order to lose and receive millions in reparations."

Very funny movie, one of John Candy's best and last. What they don't mention in the synopsis is that Canada doesn't realize what is going on.

God have to rent that fast.

I voted Canada. Because I just don't see those damn Canadians bending to our will. A little invasion should teach them.

djtestudo 09-12-2004 01:42 PM

I won't vote in the poll, but I will answer the two questions posed.

1) I don't think we will attack anyone else first because we still have to finish in Iraq and Afghanistan, and second because other countries know to listen to us now, since we have shown a willingness to fight for our best interest.

2) If we do attack someone, it will be Syria. They have a similar government to the old Saddam regime, they have been an access point for militants to enter Iraq and fight us, and they may be where Iraq's fabled WMDs are. Plus, they are a smaller nation then Iraq, so we could possibly send troops from a stablized Iraq right on in as they are scheduled to leave.

This is just my opinion, and I do believe we won't fight another war while Bush is President.

hahaha what? It's simple - who would we go to war with next if it were to happen?

If you don't think we will, then vote "no one".

[edit]

I voted Iran, although it's a tie w/ Syria. Why? Because it's in the middle east. The general public is stupid, so it's much easier to convince them that Iran/Syria has Al Qaeda or "Terrorist" connections than it would be for North Korea.

Although, I highly doubt we'd go after anyone. *If* we did, it'd most likely be one of those two.
