Sorry for another McGreevy thread, but I'm wondering if NJ TFPers can tell me more
I think this is a subject that is separate from the other two McGreevy-related threads.
I heard something about alleged corruption. I heard he's a good guy. What I want to know is, what did the governor do for the state, good or bad, during his time in office? |

He is a terrible governer, his approval rating was in the 30% range.
Property taxes are out of control, all taxes are out of control. Corruption, where to start... Lets see his top pick for Head of the state police had mafia ties, his top security guy had no credentials, except he was Jim's lover. There are just too many to list.

one more governor who promised to do something about the high cost of automobile insurance.... and failed...
I noticed all the DMV commercials airing over the weekend, where he said "he fixed the problems there" added weekend hours and other stuff -- that seems to be his legacy .

So that statement is false? He DID raise income taxes on regular people? Because I'm fine with cigarette and gambling taxes, as well as the rich paying more when the state is in the hole 5 billion.

Waste and corruption is at an all time high with this guy. He makes deals with unions and overpays for government contracts. Took a trip to Puerto Rico with tax payer money. Appointed the guy he had an affair with to head of security in NJ, and this guy he appointed is not an american citizen he is an Israeli. He has no political experience besides being in the Israeli military, McGreevey's whole administration is just appalling.
His approval rating was at about 40 percent but most people in Jersey just dont pay the slightest attention to politics. If they did he would have been impeached already. He's comparable to Grey Davis just not as dumb as he was able to dodge scandal after scandal. He did not resign because he was gay, he resigned to save his party, and others from finding out he was gay through a lawsuit. Also, he's not officially resigning until Nov. 13th so they can appoint the Senate NJ leader or something into the governor post instead of having a new election. There's so much more its horrible what this man has done, and it has nothing to do with his sexual orientation. I've also met him personally to when he looked at myself and few others, (high school student government students at the time) and then looked at his security members and said you guys should clean up better.

This wasn't worthy of a thread on it's own -- it's just one more entertaining bit of NJ Politics nonsense -- we're so proud of our state...
Convicted Sex Offender Runs for Congress A Green Party candidate for Congress can stay on the ballot despite being on probation for a sex offense conviction, the state attorney's general office said Friday. Daryl Brooks is not disqualified from seeking the federal office by his crime or his inability to vote, the attorney's general office said. The U.S. Constitution requires that House candidates be at least 25 years old, a U.S. citizen for at least seven years and a resident of the state they seek to represent. Brooks could have been disqualified if he had sought state office. New Jersey requires such candidates to be registered voters, and people on probation are not allowed to vote. Brooks was released from prison in 2002 after serving nearly four years for exposing himself to several girls in 1995. Brooks does not have a phone listing and could not be reached for comment. The Green Party did not immediately return a call seeking comment Friday. He is running for the 12th District in central New Jersey, where Democratic Rep. Rush D. Holt is seeking his fourth term <hr> There seems to be something dreadfully wrong when a person who CAN'T VOTE but is still allowed to run for office... Guess our founding fathers didn't see people like Brooks in our future... (OH, and the Green Party, says that they're not actively pushing him as a candidate -- Good Plan!)

NJ politics is among the most corrupt in the country. McGreevey seems to be more a puppet than a real leader. His close ties with some heavy weight NJ politicos (knowing them since being a kid I believe) lead him to the Governor's office. Corruption was looked at as everyday business here for many years. McGreevey's fundraisers have been convicted of illegal kickbacks, blackmail, fraud, etc. Top advisers used their (and his) political influence to give themselves the rights to billboards erected on the side of highways and then turned around and sold those rights for millions.
McGreevey is a pitiful excuse for a leader and the people of NJ are pathetically lacking in desire to change the current system. All they care about are car insurance and property taxes. Claim you will hold down taxes and fix insurance (and spend a couple million on ads) and you're good to go here in NJ. Once you get in you peddle influence and work to position yourself for either a nice private sector job or national office. The Daily Record (one of the bigger newspapers in the state) is running a 5 part series starting this Sunday on the dozen or so people who control politics in the state. I look forward to seeing who they are (no doubt there will be some developers, perhaps some insurance industry people, a couple of lifetime politicians, and maybe a drug industry person or two thrown into the mix).

To be fair, McGreevy inherited a horrible budget situation from the last governor and suffered a huge economic downturn. That said, he hasn't done much about it. I think "pretty sorry excuse for a governor" is a accurate term. and this is coming from a Democrat.
I'm for Rush Holt for governor in '05, but he's too clean to get nominated i imagine. |
