Meet The Press (or dont!)

On Meet The Press the other night Tim Russett was interviewing Colin Powel through live satellite link. When Tim asked about pre-war intelligence issues- the most unexpected and perhaps funniest things i have ever seen happen during an interview of this sort. The camera foccussed on Powel just does this lazy pan away from him, showing beach views and palm trees.
Tim Russet says something like "I dont think thats appropriate"

Apparently, one of Powel's aides decided that the interview should end there. However Powel was a good sport, and insisted on answering the question.

Did anyone see this?

drudge covered it. here's a transcript.

I have a feeling Colin Powell has a job opening on his staff right now. :)

Definitely a classy response from Powel -- it's too bad that he has no interest in becoming the first black US President.

That's pretty funny. Powell is quite a guy. I wouldn't hesitate to support him in whatever endeavor he chose.

Boy how I wish this man was our President.

Zeld2.0 05-18-2004 04:30 PM

i've always really liked powell too

My cynical side says that Powell told his aide to pull this stunt to bring-up his creditability after his comments to the UN.

funniest thing i saw about powell comedy wise

comedian said they wanted him for the president but didnt want to see him get assinated by some skin head.....so he would have to have a mexican as a vice president.....

Man, if Powell ran, there would definitely be like a 70% vote in his corner, just look at the response from the members on this forum and where they come from politically. I wish he would run, he would be a good president. Eh, such is the bread of an every day life, from morning to noon, to the shadowless night. Woo, random Flogging Molly lyrics. Yeah, Powell is a classy guy.

I think Powell's experience in this White House has probably soured him even further on ever running for President.
By all accounts, its been a nightmare for him and this is just another example. He's really the only voice of reason in a madhouse.

My American Journey

I jus finished reading Powell's autobiography (covers up to about 1995). He's quite a remarkable guy and would make a great president.

There are a number of things in his book that are completely at odds with the Bush administration's actions ... I can't wait for the sequel.

Powell has zero credibility the world over after his UN pre-war presentation. This is what his "aide" or whatever was hoping you'd forget. If I'm going to chose a Vietnam vet I'd prefer one who came home to question and end the atrocities going on there to a vet who openly sanctioned those atrocities. Have you ever read Powell's brief on the My Lai massacre? I'll take McCain or Kerry over Powell any day.

If he doesn't want to be Prez then maybe he would be McCains VP. Now that would be a tough ticket to beat.

I have a very hard time believing that the Democrats who drool all over McCain's shoes would ever vote for him if he were actually to be the Republican candidate for President. He would lose his appeal as the "real Republican" (laugh) underdog.

Democrats drool over his shoes because he's someone who comes off as trustworthy and thoughtful ... that is, compared to Bush, Cheney, Hastert, DeLay, Frist, et al. (admittedly not a high standard).

Why wouldn't we want two strong candidates instead of two weak ones?
