So to return this thread to its original purpose, I personally think the mods are great. I've posted in many politics forums and this is by far the most interesting, thought-provoking, and productive (in the sense of drawing out important points about issues and reaching concensus). Politics is an inherently difficult issue to discuss civily. Discussions about money, sexuality, even religion are far easier because they deal with essentially private issues. We can disagree on them and it will not affect our lives. Politics, on the other hand, deals with things we must decide colectively. If I disagree with you on these public issues but you win it will affect my life. Combine this fact with the anonymity the internet offers and the fact that those of us who seek out places to discuss them have strongly held views and you get a very dangerous situation. Yet despite these inherent difficulties, TFP has a decent politics discussion. And that is in no small part due to the excellent modding. |

I continue to post here specifically because of the moderator quality. I have yet to see an overly aggressive closure, and actually resent the remarks about political preference, and I am not even a Mod. Generally the closures are an attempt to quell nastiness, before it becomes embarassing, and those of you who create the closures should already know this.
There is an enormous amount of freedom here and that needs to be commended, as I am sure we have all seen places that lack the open and "real" feeling at TFP. Personally I think many of the individuals bitching on this thread should be thanking your Moderators for shutting you up before you were banned, as some of you were pretty damn close. Keep it up Mods, you all make this place worth the effort.

It looks like moderators can alter posts without anyone knowing, which is fine except why was it done, then? There seems to be no call for it... |

Wow....should I buy tinfoil hats for everyone the next holiday season?
It was a simple joke. The database was having some issues and you can see random problems like that in multiple other threads on the board from that time. And, just in case you still don't believe me ..... http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=52092

I never would have thought in a million years that someone would have figured it out. But that's ok so long as they don't find out we are secretly gathering data on them to sell to the feds. -lebell
