CBC News DEADLINE IRAQ: Uncensored Stories of the War

http://www.cbc.ca/deadlineiraq/stories.html

Some very good articles there. I know stuff like this has been discussed several times over, but it's nice to see some smaller stories you might not have read.

This may be in the wrong area, but I felt it would be the most appropraite.

There was a documentary on the CBC the other night. I think this is it. It was about the war from the point of view of the reporters covering it and the soldiers that they talked to.

It was very disturbing.

The one guy said something to the effect of that when you get hit with machine gun fire, it's not like you get some red dots on you and you fall down, it's like you are torn apart and you explode.

I stumbled upon it on the CBC, and it would be worth watching again if it comes back on. Perhaps some of the more hawkish individuals in Bush's regime should watch it too.

I see that it will be rebroadcast tomorrow, November 30, 2003.

I will watch it again cause i missed the first bit.

I would recommend it to anyone as very informative and unbiased. You might not want to watch it on a full stomach though.

There is no romance to it.

I watched the last half hour of the documentary. I don't think I ever saw footage of the Iraq war that's so intense compared to other news networks. I definiately gonna want to watch it on Nov 30th.

I saw one BBC documentary on the embedded BBC journalists and footage of some of them them joining an American convoy that was hit in a friendly fire incident. People were killed and you saw the chaos of the situation, the triage of the medics. The most remarkable thing was the injured cameraman's blood that you could see on the lens and his friends attempt to smear it off with a dirty tissue while the camera was still shooting.

Heck, maybe it was the same documentary.

I saw exactly the same thing on CBC's documentary. Couldn't be the same but some news networks tends to share footages of any war that they were involved.

i watched the documentary today the 30 nov and it was very informative they should put more things like this on but it takes a canadian station to give the real version, not that the road to baghdad was paved with gold and lined with people throwing flowers. Way to go CBC

Don't let the National Post know your views about the CBC or your name will be inserted into a databank and you will forever be watched by someone cuz you are according to them a CBC sympathizer. Shame on you. Believing a story that comes with video footage.

I like the CBC.

I got into CBC 1 radio while working in very remote areas in Quebec.

I would never want to lose the CBC.

Are you telling me that in war people actually shoot their enemy? Also, when you shoot the enemy with a machine gun they might die? I bet if the "Hawkish Bush Regime" would have known these ground-breaking findings, they would have outlawed the use of guns during the war. Maybe the Iraqis would have agreed to use some sort of laser tag devices to fight instead!!

Wow. Way to completely miss the point, buddy.

Maybe we should just let Canadians continue in this thread.

Tongue in cheek, of course.

The point is that it's not like the movies and most people out there would be quite shocked if they actually saw what war is all about.

That reporter's statement left an impression with me; I doubt you would understand that.

I didn't "miss the point" of the documentary at all. I was reacting to your comments about the "Bush Regime". Do you think Rumsfeld or Powell do not know what really happens in war? I'm pretty sure they don't think it happens "just like the movies". Sure, there are probably plenty of people that didn't know the gruesome reality of war, but that group would not include the "Hawkish Bush Regime".

Way to miss my point!!

No, I dont' think that the chicken hawks - Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, or Perle really know or care in the least about the realities of war since none of them ever served in the military.

Powell, a career soldier who did two tours in Vietnam understands exactly what war is really like. You may recall that he was rather cool on the whole iraq thing at the onset and Cheney and Rumsfeld slandered him through the media and threatened him not so discretely.

We know.

I think it would depend on the caliber of the bullet on whether it leaves a "red dot" or tears you in half, but yeah, it's pretty gory. I think most hawks already know what happens during a war, so I wouldn't expect a surge of liberalism of sorts because of a documentary on people dying.

a .50 cal would tear you apart, but something like a 7.62mm or a 5.56mm would leave a pretty dot. i used to work at an ammunition compound for the military. lot's of cool stuff.

A 7.62 leaves a pretty red dot?

That is kind of hard to believe, have you ever seen the damage a nato 7.62 will do?

I have read all the stories at that site and what I seem to get is that combat is a bloody, gory hell.

I think most people know this.

Yes, some new foreign policy that is not dictated by foreign countries.

how can it be dictated by foreign countries when he doesn't listen to anything that is said. his attitude is we can do it and he doesn't care who dies in the end.
