RIAA and MPAA seek antitrust exemption!
This article details how the RIAA and MPAA seek permanent immunity from antitrust lawsuits in a new bill called the Enhancing Federal Obscenity Reporting and Copyright Enforcement (EnFORCE) Act of 2003, sponsored by senator Orrin Hatch.
How is this possible? Doesn't this defeat the whole purpose of antitrust laws? |

i think it's a great idea. i mean, if the govt. isn't going to look out for the big corporations/interest groups, who is?

The thing that bugs me is this assumtion that corporations are guaranteed a profit, and if they dont get it, they can legislate to get one. Nowhere are corporations guaranteed a profit--if what they are doing doesnt work, thats just tough. Deal with it.

Nobody should have immunity from any law or lawsuit. Liability is a necessary component of Democracy.

It's sad that post-Enron the republicans really haven't stepped up to the plate on corporate responsiblity. For the party that espouse the "free-market", I see precious little of the free market being allowed to work. |
These org's are aware that they are in a fight for the lives basicly. so, they're willing to fight tooth and nail for every advantage they can get their hands on. They'll fight, cheat, steal and try to block anything that could weaken their position. if i were them, i'd do the same thing.

Who are the 'pigopolists', and why is the Democratic Party so reliant on them?
