Limbuagh/McNabb
Oh this should be good.....can't wait to hear the details. Rush said something that "upset and saddened" Donovan McNabb, but mean Mr. Limbaugh won't back down from his statements.
I'm pretty confident in whatever Rush has said before I even now what he's said - but another example of liberal media. Poor Donovan McNabb (quarterback for the eagles) is in some emotional termoil as the media would have you believe over something Mr. Meany said. I think the exact quote was "McNabb upset and saddened over statements by Rush Limbaugh, but Limbaugh won't back down." When's the last time you heard a quarterback of an NFL team being described as upset and saddened. Frickin hilarious. |

I'm glad Rush resigned, though I think there was no reason to. Putting political views on a sports show was just asking for it. Quarterbacks these days can't take a hit of any kind it seems. Rules have changed so they are not like the other players and perhaps it went to McNabb's head?

PC run amok. Rush didn't say anything racist. He said something with race in it, but it was not a racially-based slur. Let's break it down: affirmative action is real and sometimes people get postions they don't deserve. A lot of people here agree with that. That's all Rush was saying, whether it's true for McNabb or not. He wasn't saying that McNabb was no good because he's black. He just said that the media is hyping McNabb because he's black.

And one final statement: If you really want to bring up a group of people who you like to look at as lower than white males (which is how the racist left really sees most people), then don't promote them unless they really deserve it. Otherwise it's like giving a failing student an 'A' instead of doing a better job of educating him. You are actually holding them down more by giving them handouts that they haven't earned. And *that*, my friends, is the Republican philosophy: teach those who are willing to be taught, challenge the crap out of them to see if they are up to the job, and then allow God and themselves to give them the rewards they earned and deserve.

I agree 100% BoCo. However, we are still living in an era of racism at its worst. The people who had to drink in separate fountains and go to separate bathrooms are still alive today. And they have every right and reason to still be sceptical, at least. Time will heal these wounds hopefully.

McNabb is a great QB. Rush tried to bring race into an issue that didn't warrant it. It is good he resigned because he wasn't doing his job well. He was supposed to represent the true fan of football, I can guarantee you that no true fan is going to want to discuss race and politics when there is a game to be watched.
I love when conservatives believe all liberals hate themselves and are actually the racists. Blanket statements protect you from having to think. |

Rush was criticizing the media more than
he was McNabb. He'll be burned at the stake for it though. You can't say things like this for better or for worse.

Rush has bigger problems than ESPN now, as Superbelt alluded to. Apparently he's been illegally taking OxyContin and other perscription pain killers for several years, however no charges have been filed.
Not to inject race into the situation or anything, but I'll bet you if Rush was a poor, minority citizen he would be in much deeper trouble. Just something to think about.

C'mon, face the truth. What Rush said was simply stupid. He claimed that McNabb had never been a good quarterback and was being given a pass from criticism from liberal sports writers who wanted a black quarterback to succeed in the NFL. Does that make sense on any level? Absolutely not.
First, McNabb has been a very good quarterback until this year. He's won numerous awards and kudos for his performance on the field. Second, there are plenty of successful black quarterbacks in the NFL and there were before McNabb came along. The "liberal media" didn't need McNabb to be successful for them. (They already have Michael Vick - - perhaps the best QB in the sport) Finally, who really believes that sports writers are political and have an agenda? Sports stars are measured by performance. Period. Rush simply can't talk about sports without injecting his political viewpoint; here, that the liberal media has some kind of quota system which requires some number of black QBs succeed as starting QBs in the NFL. His viewpoint can't be supported by facts or by a transparent appeal to right-wing prejudices. He could have gotten away with this on his radio show where only dittoheads gather, but not on a television show for sports fans of every political bent, some capable of independant thought. Rush is a gasbag who should retreat to his closet where he can wallow in his addictive drug abuse and fantasies of feminazi domination. |

I too think Rush's statements were made in bad taste. Basically, he speculated that there is a conspiracy of the "media" to ban together and root for the success of a black quarterback, which in HIS opinion is overrated.
He blew it. The only way a comment like that could fly would be to eliminate more variables. If he had said that about Kordell Stewart and Kordell was the only black QB in the league, it would of been easier to swallow. |
