I think they're well on their way, how about you? and...

Why don't they call them "Chinese communists" anymore?

For a large number of obvious reasons.

The first of which is that the P.R.C. is slowly but steadily evolving into a proto-capitalist economy. Yes, there is still an unhealthly level of corruption and central government involvment but China is willing to emulate the Nippon model and go for dominance in matters business not invasion.

Hong Kong is being kept as a living laboratory in how the P.R.C. can integrate aggressive business plans with an agrarian nation of over one billion citizens.

For a nation with over four thousand plus years of recorded civilization getting excited about the past sixty years comes off as -ah- petty.

5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.

We call it the Federal Reserve which is a credit/debt system nationally organized by the Federal Reserve act of 1913. All local banks are members of the Fed system, and are regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
If the Fed is communist then just about every country in the world is 'red'.

anti-Federal Reserve sentiment is about the oldest fight in american politics. funny to see it's not dead. i wonder if the author took intro econ...even with that back ground they might understand how such systems shorten the response time of the economy to changes to limit the shock. oh well. in alan we trust...

Just a comment, but, The last 60 years have contained more social change around the world than any other period in history. For instance there have been more inventions in the last one hundred years than the whole of human history, there have been more inventions in the last 10 years than the previous 90. The availabilty to mass transport, communication, disease, capitalism, and so on has never been the same. 60 years in say the 14th century is not very important but in current social climes, 60 years is an entire structure of development akin, in the case of some countries, of peasent agricultural societies largely bypassing an industrial revolution and going straight to informaitonal society.

60 years is far from petty.

More 'social change?' In the context of the P.R.C. please expand as in my view you still have a population that is largely based on a serf/peon farmer model.
