Thousands likely to rally to Stewart/Colbert to support being a moderate

Quote:
Jon Stewart Announces the "Rally to Restore Sanity"
Tonight, Jon Stewart made his long-awaited Daily Show announcement! *Drumroll* It's the "Rally to Restore Sanity," to be held on October 30 in Washington, DC. Inside, video of Stewart's hilarious—and meaningful—bombshell, plus a rivalry-filled cameo from Stephen Colbert.
Source

FINALLY, a non-insane rally that might get the attention of the MSM. If for no other reason than it's anti-fear stance (with a liberal amount of funny thrown in).

I love John Stewart. I hope this is effective as his push to get Crossfire to stop the nonsense...

of course you could always just join Colbert in his Keep Fear Alive march scheduled for the same day.

Those moderate radicals...!

I can just see the right having a conniption fit about how the "liberal threat" is mobilizing to continue their "Marxist agenda."

What I like about that is the irony behind it. I can't wait.

I'm surprised they were able to find a weekend that close to the election where the Tea Party wasn't having a protest...

So who is going? I am about 85% sure I will be there.

I think the line is going to be more like this:

Quote:
"Today's generation thinks everything is a joke. Don't they know the seriousness of today's situation? What a bunch of smug, spoiled brats. When finally they grow up and get off of the backs of their parents, they'll see what's really going on and learn the hard way."

"The people have spoken and we're mobilizing to save our great country by bringing it back to its roots. While these kids are laughing and playing, we're going to get to work and get done what needs to be done."
So in other words the participants will be dismissed not for their politics but for being young, naive, spoiled, lazy and not truly understanding the dire consequences of the country's current course.

Well, considering that Beck's rally didn't really say anything, didn't really have a purpose, or didn't really have a call to action, I can't see how this rally can really go wrong. It was kind of intentional on Beck's part, by making it non-political. In a general sense, I guess it called to "restore traditional American values." But it was decidedly targeted at his audience, which includes many Tea Partiers. If anything, Beck's rally served to galvanize his audience. His rally was non-political (ostensibly), but it could be argued that it was a political move by Beck.

If you think about it, the underlying message of this upcoming rally is kind of the same. It's called "Restoring Sanity," but this is really about restoring honour too, because what is honour?

Wikipedia says that honour is about honesty, respect, integrity, or fairness. I think that's what Jon Stewart is getting at in the way he knows best.

The more I think about it, what I wrote will mainly be confined to internet forums and outrage radio.

I bet mainstream media won't even give much attention (not nearly as much as Beck or the Qu'ran burning guy anyway) and will merely do short, light segments at the end of the news between Dog Raises Cat! and Grandma Turns 110! stories.

Oh yeah, and October 30th is also the 36th anniversary of Nolan Ryan throwing the fastest recorded pitch in baseball history EVER! 100.9mph!

In other words, "Ohh those crazy kids...."

i think the press will devote some attention to this. it's really only left protests that get ignored altogether. things like the massive protests against the iraq war.

so the scale of press attention is:
conservatives---lots of press.
moderates---boring.
left---doesn't exist.

If it's like any other MTV production it will get churned through all it's media channels and outlets.

I think it's funny that people have forgotten that it's entertainment at it's base.

I don't think Colbert or Stewart are funny, especially Stewart (though his daughter is hot), so this makes no difference to me.

I see them as entertainment, no matter how bad it is, and I don't expect the rally to be any different.

Awesome, these guys are pretty famous so it should bring some much needed attention. Perhaps if it draws enough we can get a real national debate going about some of the extremism at some of these rallies and start drawing people away who are they because "they agree in theory".

Good stuff it should be a lot of fun.

I could have swore Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame was his daughter. Did someone give me bad information?

EDIT: After a quick and painful Wiki search of Kristen Stewart, John Stewart is her father. Sorry for the creeps I've caused.

yeah, pearl trade, but I don't think it's the same John Stewart...

Kristen Stewart was born and raised in Los Angeles. Her father, John Stewart, is a stage manager and television producer who has worked for Fox.

link goes to wiki wiki.

As far as this goes, I just might head up for this. I love John Stewart and Colbert, and the Tea Party makes me want to vomit so horrendously that I fear I would have my anal sphincter wrapped around my tongue.

Bad information indeed, considering Jon Stewart is a stage name, his real moniker is Jon Leibowitz!

I'm excited about the premise of the rally even though I cannot attend.

*edit* I see Mr. Leibowitz changed his name officially to Stewart in 2001.

Sorry for the thread jack.
