UK Parliamant on trial
Tonight, and the CPS and the Police prepare to consider criminal charges against multiple MPs, is our democracy not completely held in contempt? Is not the "mother of all parliaments" utterly bankrupt? Dave Cameron has shown some leadership while Brown dithers and winces and tries to hide his natural instinct to smash some more office equipment up behind his ridiculous fake smile that some spin doctor has obviously advised him to try to show the public.
We had sleazes in the early 90's, but this is different I think... because it seems now that the majority of MPs are on the take rather than a few really bad eggs: abusing the expenses system, flipping their second home allowances, cheating, lying, misleading, just playing the system to cash in. There are a few who come out with some honour - Vince Cable (no surprise, I think anyone at all would have before this all came out picked Vince as someone who would be clean); John Reid (allright, its quite amusing seeing that the ex-communist hard man claimed for a "sparkly toilet seat" - but he paid back a portion of the allowance he claimed when he sold his flat BEFORE it was all over the papers and anyone knew about it); Frank Field (again, another guy who you just know is gonna be clean); Hillary Benn (allright, he's a pretty ineffectual politician, but look who is dad is, he isnt gonna be on the take) We have male MPs claiming for tampons, millionaires claiming for a 42 pence yoghurt, Tory grandee's claiming for having their moat dredged (a fucking moat!), Squirell Blears committing basic and clear criminal fraud, an ex minister claiming for a mortage that he "forgot" had been paid off for a year, and just so much more, Gorbals Mick lording over the whole crooked system without any apology. It isnt just our MPs who are shamed, it is our whole democracy which must today be the mockery of the world. The most corrupt countries in the world must be laughing at Britain right now. We need a General Election now. Not in a years time, NOW. These crooks and swindlers have forfitted their right to rule over us. If they had any decency they would call a vote of no confidence in themselves and go to the people. Paying it back isnt enough, saying your sorry is not enough. The weekend will bring more shame I am sure... it looks like Balls and his wifes expenses are bad but probably not criminal fraud, Becket is apparently going to be really bad, obviously Hoon is going to be bad... I think, genuinely, its the scale of it thats so dreadful - both the pettiness of some claims (Jacqui Smiths porno movies) and the sheer number of them on the take. People dont mind someone like Prescott claiming for his mock tudor beams, and its actually laughable that he claimed the maximum food allowance and for two replacement toilet seats. We all know who Prezza is and what he is - a basically honest but pettily corrupt Union Man out for number one and with a nice straight right if some Countryside Alliance prick throws an egg at him. But seeing even the Son of the Manse claiming six longs ones for a cleaner, and childrens curtains and so on... I mean fucking hell, if Brown had NOTHING else he was supposed to be the moral man. People could accept Brown the misanthrope, Brown the physical bully, Brown the border line autistic control freak... but if even he is on the take where does it end? RESIGN NOW If the Tories get in (which they surely must) I hope they make Vince Cable chancellor. A Con-Lib pact will keep the Nu Labour crooks out of power and destroy them completely. Perhaps only then will the real Labour Party be reborn. And Vince Cable was the only one calling the current crisis two years ago while mainstream politicians were celebrating the "end of boom and bust" ---------- Post added at 11:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:12 PM ---------- ___ Edit Oh, and people can say what they want about me or that Ive flipped or turned 30 and gone right wing... I will NEVER forgive Nu Labour for the the attempt to aboloish the 10% tax bracket. Never This was worse than the Poll tax. I favour whatever we need to do and whatever we need to get through to abolish Nu Labour, and remke the working class movement in this country.
