Romney's move to California

I usually don't spend much time in Politics, nor do I start threads when I'm in here. But I heard about something today that I'm actually interested in hearing opinions about!

So, Mitt moved to La Jolla, California.
Here are some photos of the $12 million estate from the Huffington Post

Story from CBS News:
Quote:
Is Romney Looking To Get Mitts On The Statehouse?
BOSTON (AP) ― Failed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney may be heading to California.

A spokesman says the former Massachusetts governor has reached a deal to buy a home in La Jolla and will close on it this month.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is term-limited and must leave office after 2010 but a spokesman for Romney says politics is not the reason Romney is buying in California.

The spokesman says Romney has family in the state -- one son lives near San Diego -- and his wife likes to ride horses here.

Romney also owns homes in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Utah.
Why do you think he decided to move? Do you think Governator will run as VP alongside McCain or Obama, leaving an opening for a new governor in the golden state? Or do you think that he's just planning on having a relaxing, sunny retirement on the beach among family, and away from the political chaos of New England?

I'm thinking he's too young to think about retiring. I suppose the housing market is so bad that maybe he's thinking "It's now or never if I'm going to buy my dream home in California", but then again I don't think this millions-of-dollars-sector of the market has been hit terribly hard.

Interesting. I think it's too early to tell. For me, especially, I don't know much about him and stuff. My natural reaction is, he moved here for the weather and also there are real estate bargains.

As for politics, it would be difficult I think because he's an outsider. 2 year in state may not be enough to establish himself.

Idunno, my thoughts at the moment.

Arnold has expressed interest in working in the cabinet of the new administration regardless of party. Specifically, Energy.

I know California tends to go Republican with their governors, but Mitt Romney is a social conservative as well. I don't think he'll get elected that way.

Yeah, he's not the right kind of conservative for California. I'm honestly surprised that Schwarzenegger has done as well as he has.

Interesting. I don't know if anyone has been elected governor of two different states before. I don't think Romney would be able to be elected governor in California though. No real reason why, but I just don't it happening.

Oh and the Governator is constitutionally ineligible to be VP per Article Two and the Twelfth Amendment to the Constitution, so he won't be anybodys running mate.

The guy owns 3 other houses (at least). There's nothing about selling any of them.

He has a son in San Diego. His wife likes to ride horses. It's got a great view of the beach.

Nothing to see here other than the nice view.

Sam Houston was governor of Tennessee in the 1820's-1830's, before all that Texas stuff...

I will admit that Romney seems like the closest the Republicans have had to an intellectual this decade. Unfortunately, that means little to me since I always vote for the lesser of the two evils, which is never the republican candidate.

Well, he slid social-conservative in his presidential run. He was socially moderate as a governor, and even liberal on some issues, which I think was one of the things working against him in the primaries.

I got to tell you, one look at a guy named Mitt with his blow-dried hair and capped teeth, and I think California. He just seems like a fit there. I can't really see him walking down State Street in Salt Lake City or hanging out at the wharf in Boston, but can't you just SEE him driving a convertible down the Sunset Strip?

He should have moved to a more conservative area. For those who don't know, La Jolla's is North of San Diego, which has several large colleges and is known for being a very liberal area, trumped only by the SF Bay Area.

In addition to that fact, the more liberal areas of California are starting to show signs of politicians listening to atheistic policy suggestions from constituants as that particular group grows. For Mitt "Atheism is Incompatible with Freedom" Romney, it seems like he could be painted into a corner really quick. Still, stranger things have happened. Once upon a time a gent named Reagen came from California.... Hollywood, no less.

If he invited me to a BBQ, I'd politely decline.
