The Head Chick's Mouth Roars! Again!
On the tour that brought them to Madison Square Garden last weekend, the Dixie Chicks aren't ignoring what their lead singer, Natalie Maines, called "the incident": the firestorm of condemnation and the withdrawal of radio play after Ms. Maines said, on the eve of the invasion of Iraq, that she was ashamed to be from the same state as President Bush. Before the group performed on Friday night, chosen songs were played, among them "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding," "Our Lips Are Sealed," "Band on the Run," "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" and "Born in the U.S.A." During the set Ms. Maines mentioned "the incident" as she introduced "Truth No. 2," which begins, "You don't like the sound of the truth coming from my mouth." She dedicated it to Michael Moore, who made an antiwar speech at the Academy Awards. About time it starts to calm down and here she goes again! Where's Toby!!!

why do you care what she says? she has as much right as you and me to talk about her views.
i really doubt anyone takes her seriously on politics, she's a country singer for god's sakes! regardless, she does have a right to express her views.

She has the right to say what she wants to say. And I have the right to not buy her CDs because of what she says.

I bet if we boycott their concerts and CDs, Bush will magically become a genius, war around the world will end, and everyone gets free candy.

If you like the music, buy it. Outside of that, no noise that she makes has any relevance. Let it go, already.

I wonder how long it'll be until she figures out that it was fighting for freedom that gave her the freedom to condemn fighting.

I don't see why anyone really cares about this so much that they want to even talk about it... Everyone is entitled to their opinion. You don't like it, don't buy her CD.
If you actually like the music and still don't want to listen... your loss. There are other people they can play for...

I agree wholeheartedly with Charlatan. It doesn't make a difference what she says. Her opinion doesn't mean a damn thing to anyone but her. I'm sure we all have some opinions that would not be too popular with the general population. Her problem is that she doesn't know when to shut the fuck up.

I try to stay pretty involved in current events, but I haven't' really heard about this. Sounds like a classic case of the conservative propaganda machine whipping people into a froth though. I mean, whoop-de-doo...
crappy country music = crappy country music

I could care less what the Dixie chicks say at their concerts, what irritates me is that after they say something incredibly moronic they whine about their sales going down and that they are being boycotted. If you say stupid things, stupid things end up happening to you thanks to the fact that all citizens have the right to respond to said free speech. It's not "anti free-speech" to boycot anyone, it's been an effective tool of civil rights for years. It's not "anti free-speech" to boo someone who is preaching to you about something you disagreewith, even if the speaker is a Republican.

actually, they "whined" about death threats and vandalism directed at their personal property while sales continued.

The disappointing thing about Maines isn't that she expressed her opinion. It's that she backed away from it and acted like it was something to apologize for.
Now... if they express their opinion via music, most of the knuckle draggin' trailer park dwellin' country music fans won't get it anyway. |

I'm late to the party, so excuse me for a second...all of this anger stems from the Dixie Chicks??
Hey, I heard that Brooks & Dunn said something bad about Hamas. You know what that means? Nothing. They are singers. Entertainers. They are street musicians without the basket of change. You should probably sit down....rumor has it that Shania Twain is opposed to the new tax plan.
