have a look at pipes' webpage--it's linked in the op--or have a look at the network of blogs written by parents in the neighborhood--or at the ny times background page for a host of articles written about this nonsense since last september--the information's all here, linked to the thread. and it's depressing as hell.

it's always depressing to find jingoism getting traction.

to be clear, i wrote about the brooklyn situation as i was able to piece it together last night on a level beneath that of the nytimes article, not about the thread here so much--i was bouncing off ms media and hiredgun's posts above mine to do it.
