Two Theories on Peace
For years most of Europe subscribed to a theory that peace brings security. The U.S. and several others have subscribed to the theory that security brings peace. Not too many years ago we used the oceans to provide security. The advent of modern aircraft and weapons systems eliminated the security that came with distance. Since that time the U.S. has tried to insure that our security kept others from bringing terror to our country. Our security has been lacking in the recent past. One needs only to look at our porous border with Mexico to see that at this time the government is either incapable of, or unwilling to provide the type of security it takes to feel safe. Europe's tenet that peace brings security has never worked - in the history of mankind there have been only a few short periods of peace throughout the world at any one time and these have been short lived. It would appear that total security, and that is probably an impossibility, is the only way to provide peace. Are we willing to take the steps to provide this security or do we continue to play the Russian Roulette variety of security that seems to becoming the norm?
If we were capable of having that type of security would the American people put up with it?

Peace at any price? No thanks, not in America. Maybe in Amerika though.
Security and Freedom always play a difficult balancing act. It's unfortunate IMO that security seems to be winning out...
