would you people quit bitching about speeling errors

stop trying to shed a negative light on everyone just becuase they mispell a word (see i just misspelled misspell)

spelling errore happen, as long as it can be understood, dont complain. im geting sick of half of the comments being complaints about some one who misspelles

stop your bitching

note, not everyone does this and its not just one side of an issue that does it either.

its peopl as a whole.

so just stop ok.

For me there's a big difference between a typo and a fundamental misunderstanding of the word. Generally I'll point out errors with homophones, etc, for the purpose of educating the poster, as a side thought to my true response.
On a serious note, it's really very important to convey one's ideas in a coherent fashion. Think of it as going to a job interview and having your shirt buttons misaligned. Is the employer going to be distracted from your merits? You bet. Take thirty seconds to check your post before you submit it. You might even think better of a negative remark!

You can convey a message that is intelligent even if you cannot spell. Spelling is a skill. Many people have a hard time spelling while some do not, but that does not make one smarter than the other. If you were speaking directly with someone you would not know if they would spell the words they use to you correctly but you would know what they were saying.

This is a message board for people to talk. It is not a job interview and is not a school paper that needs to be graded. I am sure a lot of you are at work and don't have time to even be posting not alone double checking for spelling errors.

There are many ways to derail a topic and try and make the poster seem unintelligent and therefore wrong. Pointing out spelling errors is one of them.

If you read a lot of my posts you will see that I point out a lot of the ways people try and discredit someone else. This is a personal pet peeve of mine.

Everyone has a right to their opinion and a right to be heard. You may not agree with them and they may even be wrong. Prove them wrong with facts. Trying to make them look stupid just hurts them it does not educate them.

Well, personally, I don't point out spelling errors to try to discredit a post. While this may be just a message board for people to talk, how you express yourself includes things like proper use of spelling, grammar, and word choice. If a post is rife with errors, it can reach the point of distraction, or mar the poster's ability to convey his or her point.
If you want to address people's tactics with regards to derailment or discrediting, I think it's clear that all are many more significant and effective than petty concerns of spelling. It's something I consider a great deal as well, though I don't think "pet peeve" is the right term. More like a subject of interest. Anyone can point out poor spelling, and anyone can see if such a response is intended to detract from the person's point. It takes some thought to spot the more dastardly plots.

I try and use word as much as possible and cut/paste my post over. I still find typos when I go back and read some of my thoughts; and feel embarrassed. I understand what a person is saying if they happen to make a mistake, but their contribution to the conversation seems more effective to me if everything is correct. Occasionally, I don’t think I was learned enough in school.

I am a horrible speller and typer. I can't tolerate grammar nazis. however, if someone can show me my mistake occasionally and I can learn from it , then good for both of us.

people think and learn differently. some people can't understand math or computers or animals. i can't understand spelling, it is embarressing and has aliented me many times. yet, I do continue to post and try my best and haven't once dealt with a nazi on here.

if they do it to discredit your post then rejoice. they are angry and too ignorant to prove you wrong so they try to hit below the belt and off topic.

I agree with Kadath. Sometimes, improper grammar impedes your ability to make your argument plain to the people who are reading it. When a sentence is disjointed, the reader must make judgements as to the writers intent. However, a reader should ask for clarification from the writer out of courtesy, if he or she is unclear as to the intent. Only after receiving clarification should a reader feel free to bite the writer in the ass.

WOW settle down LD! Communication is what's important, doesn't having fun come in there somewhere? If some one corrects my spelling- OH WELL. Don't like my grammar- don't write back. People ignore me for my opinion and that doesn't bother me, why the hell should it bother me if they don't like the way I write it.

I didn't know this was that much of an issue.
I've been here for awhile, and I have yet to find someone correcting my spelling.
And I do know that I do misspell things.
Sometimes if the point is long & important I will use Word,
but mostly I don't.

It's like I've said before, it's not the spelling that counts,
but the idea behind it.
