Rugby!

This is my first attempt at shooting any fast paced action sports photographs, much less rugby, so i've still got a ton to learn. Also, it was very dark and rainy, so as a result they are grainy and a little blurrier than I would wish, though not too much. I shot these in RAW (I only shoot raw when I anticipate needing post exposure changes).

Enjoy!

I love the facial expressions on men when they are competing in physical activities.

Excellent!

Excellent, especially in light of the conditions. I think my wife is happy that I played football with pads.

Awesome shots mate! you caught all the best aspects in that game, its nice to see some regional footy played in the rain and mud the way it should be, please continue to do this cause I really would like to see more of it.

Great job

P.S. Great to see you follow the right code :D :D

Rugby

I also play rugby here in central Pa and thought I'd throw up a few of mine as well. I'm on the A side now though, so I don't really get the chance to take as many pictures as I would like to. These are from our alumni game last spring, the current players are the ones in black jerseys with the solid red sleeves.

Great pictures, but I have to ask....what's with the group wedgies?

dlish 10-29-2005 02:58 PM

shpoop..everyone would agree that the best rugby games are played in the slush, slurry and mud. i think that'd be your best photo opp i rekon.

but please make sure u post some more..

ngdawg... lol..on second look, maybe u have a case for your curiosity :D

Part of the game, when the bowl is out of bounds, the member of the oppositing team throws it back into play.

Kinda like in soccer where player throws the ball back into the field but this time in rugby, everybody is lined up and ready to jump up in the air for the ball and the guys on the ground help the player that's suppose to jump by giving him what i like to call "atomic wedgie"

I once did that and it actually ripped my rugby shorts and i played the rest of the game without noticing that i had my hatch open down below :D

I know the best looking, most fun photos would come from muddy games, but usually there is not much sunlight, and a lot of rain. Like last time, I had 800 ISO, and still had more blur than I wanted. I would sacrifice mud for less grain and less blur most of the time. Plus, I'm pretty new at this.

I agree that it should be played in the slush and mad but also I dont like fields such as the one hektore posted, the field that I play on has nice lush green grass but it is really soft also the ground is hard so you dont slip, its the perfect ground, I dont really like grounds such as the one hektore played on, but thats just me :)
