hey, those photos are awesome...no wonder you got them sold. I don't do much action shots, but I'm about to do a rugby game for a friend, and would like to know some basics before I go in there so...
What is your ISO speed usually? I was planning on using 400, is that the norm? What do you aim at for shutter speed? I know many things can affect your range, but what is your slowest that you will settle for? And I know this one depends totally on how you want the photo to look, but what do you usually set your aperture at? |
Rugby
Rugby is a great sport. I love looking at rugby photos because you don't have a helmet or pads blocking the subject's expression.
With volleyball at the beach in bright sunlight I usually shoot at 400 iso. Based on trial and error I have found that a shutter speed of anything slower than 1/2000th of a second is too slow. At that shutter speed I can catch the logos on the ball without any blur and can also capture the compression of the ball when it hits the player's hands. The f/stop issue is a tough one. The problem with beach volleyball is that the background clutter (logos, signs, spectators) is usually very distracting. In order to keep the clutter to a minimum I usually shoot at f/5.6 to f/2.8. But on the landscape shots above my f/stop was usually f/8 to f/16. Low light volleyball is another story altogether. Hopefully your rugby match will be during the light of day. Then you will have a lot more creative latitude. |
Congratulations!
<BR> Always have enjoyed viewing your work. |
Great work! Love that 3rd one down with the girl all sky high going for the ball. Such great musculature in her back and I love the how the sand shows the takeoff.
The dude with the afro is great too. What a wonderful expression capture. And well... of course... that ass collage is quite something too :) Thanks for sharing these and congrats ! |
Nice shots, norske. I know that beach well. I haven't been to the volleyball tournament, though.
Also, congratulations on getting those published. One of these days I hope to join the ranks of published photographers. |
amazing photos, I liked them a year ago and I like them more now :)
