Fall Colors

Went out this weekend to see the leaves change. Colorado doesn't have the reds of New England and the northwoods, but our yellows are pretty spectacular. How are the leaves doing in your neck of the woods?

Those are beautiful Stan. Not much color here yet. I can hardly wait.

Salomon 09-26-2005 04:41 PM

Beautiful pics. Just beautiful.

Nice colors, too.

Sue 09-26-2005 04:53 PM

*sigh* I wanna be there.

shesus 09-26-2005 05:14 PM

Beautiful! I prefer red leaves, but the last one made me a fan of yellow.

onodrim 09-26-2005 05:38 PM

Absolutely stunning! I think Fall is now my favorite season. :)

cellophanedeity 09-26-2005 06:02 PM

We're not colouring up here yet, but you can smell it in the air.

I love the last picture. An absolutely perfect picture of fall. :)

Those are so incredibly beautiful!! No color as of yet here in New England, but sooooon.....
Thanks for the photos, the mountains are such an amazing backdrop to that luminous gold.

Shpoop 09-28-2005 09:03 AM

Gorgeous, I love the way the verticals of the trees clash wiht the horizontal striations in the mouintains in the first one.

Leaves are still green here in NJ (yes, I'm out of Miami for at least 4 years of college life)

Went out for another try this weekend. These are near my home.

Longs Peak, I need to revisit this one in a couple of days hoping for better color, though calm days are hard to come by here.

I live in Bar-K subdivision, about mid way between Jamestown and Peak to Peak Hwy, just past Overland Pass.

Here are a few pictures from our cabin just west of Grant, Colorado. These were taken about two weeks ago.

A lot of the aspens have lost their leaves/color but there are still plenty to see. I rode up near Nederland on 72 and then went south on the peak to peak highway for a while a few days ago and it was still quite beautiful.

Those are truly breathe taking photographs. Living in South Florida does have some drawbacks for sure. How long do the leaves last before they are off the trees?

Spanxxx 10-14-2005 11:10 AM

Damn you! I so miss Colorado. I haven't been there in years now.. /sigh. I love it out there. It's so beautiful.

Few weeks usually. Depends on the year. lol

StanT 09-26-2006 06:27 PM

Tis the season, thought I'd resurect an old thread rather than start a new one.

colorado does give the northeast a run for it's money when it comes to color.. very pretty... and yu've got some reds this year :D

shakran 09-26-2006 06:48 PM

That last pic is one thing I really miss about the southwest. Golden aspen trees against that unbelievably blue sky.

That we do.

I haven't shot much for colors this year because I still hadn't replaced a lens I dropped a few months ago. Finding the lens I want in stock been a huge pain. Bit of a challenge to try to shoot and stitch landscapes with an 80-200mm. As such, these aren't the greatest, but its what I got shooting at 80mm+.

Suprisingly got a few decent panos... but you guys would kill me if I uploaded them. They are kinda huge, even resized.

Love that last one, Stan. What a beautiful scene!

skibum, Those are nice & very fall-ish. Beautiful place! What lens did you drop that you're missing so much? Just curious... I'm like all kinds of new to dSLR & lenses etc, so yeah, quite interested nowadays in what people prefer to shoot with.

paddyjoe 09-27-2006 03:21 AM

Great shots Stan. I might give up a season of reds to hang out in the Aspens. Simply beautiful!!

kurty[B] 09-27-2006 07:11 AM

Great shots Stan and skibum. This weekend should provide for some decent shots in my neck of the woods. It's great to see both of you posting photos, I miss them.

I got lucky when I got my D70 and got a decent sample of the 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6G. Its a cheap lens, most copies are pretty crappy (the other more common kit lenses are much better like the 18-55), but my copy of it was pretty good. Lacked a little on the wide end for many, but shooting in the mountains you don't usually need super wide. Occasionally wanted wider, but I had no need to replace it really. Back in late July I dropped it on a rock and watched it roll into a river. lol. Still works, and shots look good in small sizes, but full res you can see its not right.

So I decided to step up to something better optically. I just ordered a Sigma 10-20mm, which gets good reviews. I wanted the Tokina 12-24mm because I hear great things about it, but everywhere is backordered, and I didn't want to spend 1000 dollars for the Nikkor 12-24. lol. And then for the mid range I will probably get a 50mm 1.8 prime, as its a cheap and amazing lens.

Lady Sage 09-27-2006 04:56 PM

*Sigh* One good thing about Ohio is there is no shortage of fabulous colors. We have trees starting to lose leaves here.

swell stuff...as a coastal area,we don't get fall for another 3 to 5 weeks...will post colors then......xoxoxoo

xepherys 09-28-2006 06:54 AM

Great shots! It really makes me miss autumn in Michigan. Northern Michigan has some of the most beautiful fall foliage there is to be seen. Sadly, central Arizona does not, lol. Thanks for the taste of autumn!

gal 09-28-2006 01:58 PM

Oh man, beautiful colors Stan!

Skibum, I love the way the birch stands out in this one:

I miss the Georgia falls beyond belief, in TX the trees don't really have colors, they just die and fall off immediately, it's depressing. These pictures are so beautiful, I love fall, can't wait to see it in the east again.

abaya 10-03-2006 01:01 PM

Holy crap, skibum... that second pic on Post #21 is stunning. I have GOT to get out to Colorado soon!

Leaves are a-changin' here in central PA... they started late last year, and early this year. I just want them to hang on for 2 more weeks, for our wedding! :D

Not exactly true, Ghoastgirl. Although not to be compared with the northeast, we do get some nice fall colors in Texas...
Oh, and I'm not a photographer, as will soon be obvious...
