Amonkie, now THAT's a view one could get used to.

We also have an updated view from our last one. We moved up from the 13th to the 28th floor and got a south and west view. This is what we see now.

bobby 02-11-2006 08:06 AM

I wasn't taking pic's for this purpose...but

this is out side my bedroom window....

Here's mine of the backyards of Rabbittown. We got dumped on again last night, another 1.5 feet!

I'd rather be in Bobby's backyard!

Daniel_ 02-11-2006 01:00 PM

Oooh!

I missed your new one Amonkie, and I like yours Lucifer.

JumpinJesus 02-11-2006 02:14 PM

That's a lot of freakin' snow, lucifer. It looks like some people are going to have problems getting out their back doors.

I took this at sunset a week or so back.

I'm not photographer (but looking at the work in this forum makes me want to learn!)... But I've got a pretty decent view. Here are some shots I've taken over the last 5 months. I'll be honest though, this is the view from the hallway just outside my bedroom.

The apartment across from me has a much better view. I'll try to get some shots there soon.

Tech 02-17-2006 07:23 PM

i hope this isn't too personal a question... but you two guys from NYC have BEAUTIFUL views... how's the cost of living? and "extremely high" isn't what i'm looking for, i know it's high. views like that seem unattainable to me right now, as someone soon to be out of college.

Lucifer 02-18-2006 03:34 AM

Is that the Baroque Cycle Trilogy by Neal Stephenson on your bookshelves? do you like it?

JumpinJesus 02-18-2006 06:47 AM

ubertuber,

I have to admit that I'm a bit jealous that you get such a great view of the fireworks.

Daoust 02-18-2006 08:58 AM

Neat pics. Some of you have much nicer views than the average joe. I look out to trailer park. Exciting!

ubertuber 02-18-2006 04:41 PM

Lucifer - it is indeed. I love all of Stephenson's books, but those occupy a place in my heart close to Cryptonomicon. Strangely, I'm pretty sure Cynthetiq asked Supple Cow the same thing when she posted a picture taken in her room. Apparently those books have some followers on TFP.

JJ, I still don't know what those were for... But they were cool. I sat at my window take pictures as fast as my camera would allow me too.

Tech, I won't take it too personally, but my answer won't be helpful either. My apartment is part of my job - I'm a college residence hall director. In exchange for rent free living, I'm on call for emergencies 24/7. It's a good deal. They appraised my apartment at a little over $3,000/month a couple of years back (for tax purposes). The Upper West side is rapidly becoming really expensive - new construction + young professionals with stupid amounts of money. Needless to say I couldn't live here any other way.

Is this Newark, Jumpinjesus?
It looks so much like the view from my univerisity!!! I had to actually draw the view so it stuck so much in my mind!

dawnoffawn 02-21-2006 07:02 PM

My view just looks out houses in my neighborhood:(

Lucifer 02-22-2006 05:04 AM

so does mine, but that didn't stop me posting it

The view from my old place in Bath. My new view is nice too but I don't have any decent pictures and its all grey and overcast today.

ubertuber 02-22-2006 06:19 AM

I remember how beautiful the buildings in Bath look in the afternoon... All those honey-colored stone buildings in the warm light... I was only there for a few hours, but it is such a pretty area.

Suave 02-23-2006 05:44 PM

Mine's not as panoramic as many of yours, so I'm working with what I've got. One's the view through the window, the other is the view of the inside of the window a couple days ago.

Suave,

Is that ice on your window??

Hundove,

actually, it's Chicago. I didn't realize that Newark would look so similar. Now I'm intrigued to see Newark for myself.

avernus 02-24-2006 02:08 AM

Looks bloody cold Suave! Everything grinds to a halt when we have an inch of snow here (I'm not kidding) so I have no idea how you cope!

Bath is lovely tuber. I've lived here for almost 8 years and sort of feel that it is a place you go to retire... Am looking forward to moving to Bristol, much more vibrant, less pretentious and more multicultural.

Newark is an incredibly crime riddled city (drugs/prostitution/car theft), but it's got some amazing architecture in it... a lot of old art deco type buildings, gothic cathedrals, and some new glass skyscrapers... especially in the area by Seton Hall Law School...

JumpinJesus 02-24-2006 05:52 AM

maleficent,

I find that often some of the best urban photographic opportunities are found in parts of towns that make taking those photographs almost not worth the risk. I guess they make such great opportunities because there aren't many photographs of those areas. One of these days I'll be brave enough to photograph the neighborhood where I work.

Yup, sure is.
I don't think you'd want to see it, Jumpinjesus.
It's one of the dirtiest places in NJ (let's not mention Jersey City, lol).

Certainly is. It's always a treat when winter manages to creep inside of the house and make something like that. :)

avernus: All boasting and "we're all survivalists" stuff aside, when you get weather like that often, the municipal infrastructure can normally handle it fairly well (although there are car accidents galore the first few days after a fresh snowfall).

Lucifer 02-25-2006 06:10 AM

this is the view from my living room window in the middle of blizzard #5. Doesn't seem to be actually snowing a lot, but the wind is up over 100 km/h and creating huge drifts across the street. I'm glad I've got some new rentals from Blockbuster and nowhere to go...

How high are those snowbanks Lucifer? The one by the corner of the white building looks like it could be 5 feet high...

Technically this is from my front porch, not from my bedroom window. The morning air is a little hazy right now. I might try later in the evening or again tomorrow. When the air is clear you can see the cactus in the foreground and the snow on the mountain tops at the Mountain High ski resort (with a good zoom you could see the skiers!)

the_marq 02-26-2006 10:51 AM

I snapped this about 4 minutes ago, on a clear day you can see the Rocky Mountains over that ridge....

keyshawn 03-04-2006 11:59 AM

here's mine at college

This is the view from my dorm at college which faces the 'quad' - where a lot of students hang out when it's nice and warmer out in the spring and fall. Plus, at night, I have the chance to see the occasional streaker run down the hill, touch my building and run back :D
Granted, this view may not be as picturesque as some other TFP'ers, but it's one of the best on campus :)

(I know this picture can be possibly more centered, but I decided that it was still worthy to be shown and it's better than no picture at all.)

[This picture was taken on Thursday, Mar. 2, 2006, possibly one of the last snows around here]

I think it's a fantastic view keyshawn. I'm a little jealous!

This is a great thread for me. My bedroom has a balcony that looks out over the lake. I'm always running out there to snap a photo.

Here's my view. The first 3 pics are from 2002, the last one is from 2004. The skyline is pretty much the same now, maybe 2 new skyscrapers are up on the east side.
