Adobe Content-Aware Fill

I was really planning to leave CS5 alone... until I saw this:

Man, that's some intense stuff!

dlish 04-02-2010 06:57 AM

wow..thats pretty impressive.

i wonder how it would work with something that is not natural environment though

xepherys 04-02-2010 07:08 AM

I saw this on the POTN forum initially, and one of the guys asked, "So, if I have a beach picture with ten hot girls and one fat girl, I can select the fat girl and this will make her hot?"

Yeah, I know... crass and such. I was amused.

But really I would love to just load pictures into this thing and see what I could make disappear.

dlish 04-02-2010 07:24 AM

imagine what you could make disappear with pics of transvestities.

great prank material.

this also got me thinking if this stuff is doable with close ups too.

xepherys 04-02-2010 07:32 AM

I want to take a sweet headshot and remove the eyes... Do some serious surrealism action.

I don't have much in the way of skills in this area, but the free software nerd in me is compelled to point to this blog post describing the equivalent GIMP feature.

It's a major time saver but really nothing different than healing and cloning.

dlish 04-02-2010 10:00 PM

this does mean that photoshopping is no longer a specialised skill and you'll get every man and his dog using this tool.

It may mean that some people find themselves out of a job if this tool is as easy as it seems to look

This is actually the core of a debate going on at the forum I found this on. But a good point was made in that a crappy photo won't magically be turned into a great photo becuase of this tool. It just makes it easier for the photog that can take a great picture to start to make it even better.

I've been using this for a few years
Download Liquid Resize Retarget for Windows on CrystalXP.net - Software
Looks like Adobe did what I'd expect from a company that can dump huge amounts of cash into improving that kind of technology. With the way PS analyzes images, it doesn't surprise me that they got it this good, this fast.

I wonder how this will affect the believability of those before/after penis enlargement ads they have on porn sites.

Nothing at all, except MUCh quicker, and also takes a lot of the guesswork out of doing it yourself. Sometimes "eyeballing it" is no match for computation.

I am impressed and would like to buy the latest edition, but what is the price of CS5?

xepherys 04-09-2010 12:32 PM

$∞ or a close approximation thereof

dlish 04-09-2010 06:57 PM

a friend of mine who happens to be a photographer told me the price could run into the thousands.

ill look for other alternatives thanks.

motdakasha 04-09-2010 06:59 PM

the price is your soul. ;p

dlish 04-09-2010 07:14 PM

i guess that's your psychology degree speaking?

motdakasha 04-09-2010 10:01 PM

I think the base price for Photoshop (only) is usually around $800. Upgrade version is typicall around $400. Student versions can be had for ~$300.

Arachnid 04-15-2010 03:21 AM

damn impressive stuff there

thanks for the heads up

cheers

Look at the road during the content aware demo when he's talking about the line on the left. It's good, but far from perfect. Kind of reassuring that it can't insta-fake as much as they want you to think it can.

Also, look forward to people flooding the Internet with millions of puketastic HDR photos (is there any other kind of HDR?) with his last favorite feature.

not good enough.

MSD 05-06-2010 06:43 PM

Its strongest point is its ability to make a believable sky to fill the frame when you do panoramas. I'm definitely buying it for work.

dippin 05-06-2010 10:47 PM

CS5's content aware filter is pretty much the same as the alien skin "image doctor" program.
