Buying equipment online
Have any of you had experience with buying cameras and accessories online? Are there any sites that you would suggest? Any that you would warn against? Thanks for the input.

My brother and I have bought camera equipment from B&H Photo in New York B&H Photo Video | Digital Cameras, Camcorders. They have a pretty solid reputation for reliability. They also have a huge photo store around 34th St & 9th Ave in Manhattan.
Stay away from any online dealers that offer camera equipment for significantly less than dealers like B&H or Adorama. Those are most likely scams. |
I get my camera things from Ebay. I use DSLRA as my company of choice and i haven't been dissapointed.
I also used pcvonline to get some flash cards but my actual cameras are from here in town. I get better deals for now. |
I've bought gear from Adorama, Amazon, B&H, and Crutchfield... oh and Abes of Maine.
All are reputable, IMHO. |
Got mine from B&H as well, and I mostly buy computer stuff from them, but newegg.com has a little bit of DSLR equipment and a lot of point and shoot stuff. They usually have great prices.

B&H is probably your best bet. Before doing any camera shopping on line, check out Store Ratings and Reviews by Real People - Trusted Online Shopping and look for the company you think you'd like to do business with.
The cheapest price is probably the worst dealer. And always ask if the item is "gray market", meaning it's not an item normally available in the US and will not be warrantied. |
Another vote for B&H. I loved poring through their catalogs. I think I probably have spent about a thousand bucks with them and have never been disappointed.

and yet another vote for B&H. My shop gets all our cameras/VTR's/lights from them.

B&H for me, as well.
Be sure to look at their holiday schedule, before you order to understand when your order will arrive. Their holidays are likely a bit different than yours and can affect delivery. |
