My weekend in the mountains
This last weekend I had the chance to do some hiking in the Cascade Lakes area of central Oregon. The area is ringed by several major volcanoes and features basalt slot canyons and lakes formed by lava flows as well as clast flows.
There are three volcanoes in the area known as the Three Sisters: Hope, Faith, and Charity. Below is a picture of South Sister with her caldera obscured by clouds: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1007/...cf18f7873f.jpg A view of Mt. Bachelor through pines, Sparks Lake in the foreground: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1184/...3e161382b7.jpg Broken Top as seen from the eastern shore of Sparks Lake: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1004/...1ef2c131ed.jpg Mt. Bachelor from across a mountain meadow, with Sparks Lake to the west: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1174/...48b97548f1.jpg My camera is just a digital point-and-shoot model, but I enjoy using it, and would appreciate some feedback on the composition of the shots. |
Always remember that the camera does not make the photographer, the photographer makes the camera. It might be "only" a P&S, but these are all very nice. On my CRT the forground looks a little dark, and seeing how the sky is exposed I would think that might be accurate, but its could also be how I have things set. On the HDTV they look great. lol

Was it as peaceful as it looks?

That last shot is wonderful, mind if I use it as my desktop background?

Go back and shoot the same locations at dawn or dusk. Be sure to take a tripod. You'll be amazed. ...oh and don't worry about your gear. You've got the right senses I think. |
Great shots and an even more spectacular scenic trip you got to enjoy! :D
I was wondering, since most of your pics seem to linked from from flickr, do you by chance have an account there? I'd love to add you as friend since I, too have an account. Spoiler: but no need to mention that I not own a camera...oops.:p I would not mind hiking up to those mountains or some similar ones, I would "go to bed frequently getting lost in the woods"... (subtle allusion to what is playing as I type this, can you guess what it is?) |
