St. Vrain glaciers
Sorry, copy paste from another board so you get the boring story.
Hiked up there few weeks ago. Shots aren't all I wished for, but I had a few things working against me. Was using a cheap lens for a few shots which I dropped on a rock and watched roll into a river... (suprisingly still works), didn't take the time to work on composition, and for some shots was using a 10mm fisheye which is something I have never shot before (borrowed from another guy on the hike). Odd lens. The hike is long, and not easy. We were lucky and had ATV's to get up the road, cutting the hike to 4.6 miles one way. Without the ATV's you have 8.5 miles of hiking one way. There is about 3000 feet of elevation gain. Three bridgeless river crossings, a few times scrambling over boulder fields, and making your own trail you finally reach the lakes. Insanely beautiful hike. Wildflowers were in bloom (couldn't walk without stepping on them) but the shots just looked like hundreds of colorful dots, so I haven't included any. In fact, out of the 100's of shots, these are the only ones I feel are worthy of posting. Just couldn't capture the immense size and beauty of the place well. Perhaps I will post the others up later if anyone cares to see them, but they are pretty craptacular. Elk Tooth on the way in http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/5...17801bslv7.jpg eventually you reach a log jam that forms a nice little lake where people camp. Wish I could have gotten a better angle, but some people had just set up camp and I didn't want a tent in the shot. Kinda bad stitch. http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/7139/pano3vh9.jpg Dunno why I like this shot. Just some cliffs. http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/7108/pano2bvn4.jpg few shots from the lower lake using the fisheye 10mm http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/4...c332201uk8.jpg http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/2...c333401jw5.jpg and the upper lake, again with the 10mm (swam in this lake for all of 10 seconds... was a WEE bit cold) http://img346.imageshack.us/img346/1...328101spq8.jpg http://img314.imageshack.us/img314/2...c326701qj4.jpg |
Looks like a nice place to go hiking. Especially the last five.

Absolutely gorgeous. Sure beats the Hell out of Dallas, Texas.

Beautiful!
I'm not sure the fisheye lens and nature landscape shots really get along, but I've never used a fisheye so I can't really say much there. Mmmm, high mountain lake swimming. I need to get off the bike this weekend and go for a hike. |
