Photos in the Carolinian Smokies (and a couple bonus So. Fl.)
Well I'm still up here in North Carolina and have been taking pictures whenever I can. Here are the ones I've been able to edit thus far, plus some I never got around to uploading from a trip to Key West.
As I take more, I will continue to place them in this thread. I had to downsize some photos especially much to make them fit on photobucket, but oh well, I still feel they're presentable. Stick with it, I promise the pictures get better near the end! OK, Day 1 It was raining right before we got there, so I couldn't resist the urge to take some pictures of the water drops: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../redleafup.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ina/dropup.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ina/leafup.jpg Then we went to the nearby golf course to throw the ball for my dog. Here you see my dog and my mother: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...olina/bgup.jpg Day 2 I woke up and decided to take a walk and take some pictures, nothing spectacular. Some pretty lighting on a golf cart path: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...na/rayup-1.jpg A patch of ferns I thought was nice and quaint: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../fernsup-1.jpg Shot of the golf course...not a great photo, but I like the composition: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ina/goflup.jpg Day 4 Ah, July 4th. We took a hike up a mountain...it was really shady and I didn't bring the tripod, so there weren't many great photo ops...but here are a couple documentary ones. In it is my brother and my dog: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...na/hike2up.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ina/hikeup.jpg However, I did get to take some nice glam shots of the dog at the top: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...na/zeke1up.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...na/zeke2up.jpg Day 6 I woke up early and went to a local stream that I have gone to since I was a kid. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../stream1up.jpg Not a great photo, but I thought it was cool how you can see the water moving at different speeds further away: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...tream2up-1.jpg Thought this one was pretty nice: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...tream3up-1.jpg I liked how the water looked going around the log: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...tream4up-1.jpg Thought this was pretty, the water flowing under the blooming rhododendrons: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...tream5up-1.jpg I like this one, makes it look so tropical, and more jungly than it actually is: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...a/d46fbe43.jpg Day 8 Wasn't much opportunity for photos, until my aunt's dog, a Bishon, thought he could roll with mine....literally. He had a blast, but he got dirty...and the aunt wasn't exactly thrilled. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../archie1up.jpg Hate using the flash, but I needed to in this case...too much action, not enough light. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../archie2up.jpg Look at those eyes! http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../archie3up.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../archie4up.jpg Dog's cute, and I think the tap water looks pretty cool too. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../archie5up.jpg This is my favorite. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../archie6up.jpg Runner up: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../archie7up.jpg And ah, the blow drying! http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../archie8up.jpg Day 9 Woke up at dawn to go to a waterfall nearby...some pretty nice pictures I thought. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...terfall2up.jpg My favorite: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...terfall1up.jpg Some others: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...terfall8up.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...terfall9up.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...erfall10up.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...rfall7up-1.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...rfall6up-2.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...rfall5up-1.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...rfall4up-1.jpg Day 11 That's today, the 11th. I woke up at dawn again and went to an inn nearby with it's own lake. It was absolutely gorgeous. I am not done editing these yet, so will post more later. A watermill: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...atermillup.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...rmill2up-1.jpg View of the lake. I have just fallen absolutely in love with this photo, I don't know why. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ina/lakeup.jpg There you have it. I will post more later. And as promised, some from my trip to the Keys: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...IMG_0182up.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ng/sail2up.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ida/boat22.jpg |
Shpoop, you've come a long ways, IMHO, since you first started posting photos on TFP, especially with your compositions. Good job and thanks for sharing.

Target-rich environment. Lots of interesting shots. You capture the ambience of the surroundings very nicely, I especially like the first shot, Day 11. There are a bunch that stand out, and for comedy, the dog getting water dumped over his head was a great shot, nice shutter speed. Well done.

I love those waterfall photos. Looks like a great place to visit.
|
The picture on the boat (second to last) is my absolute favorite. It has amazing composition and coloring. I'd even pay for a print of that.

Some very nice shots in there. Well done. The shot of the lake in the fog is a wonderful shot. Only thing I would do is slight burn tool on the sky as its a bit bright.
|
Fantastic shots shpoop! I especially like the drop, waterfall10up. watermillup is just georgeous, how old is that millhouse I wonder?
|
Where in NC did you take those?? You have some great shots man!
Oh yeah.. what camera are you using? I think out of all your pics, the first watermill one is my favorite. The one you listed as your favorite is another great one. Good Job  |

Seriously, though, I'll look into prices and stuff. I might be interested. Where in the smokies were you? I live in Asheville right now, about 30 mins from the Great Smoky Mountains N'tl park. My friend works there, and I'm working at a bank near there for a few weeks. Just saw your other reply. Where is Cashiers? Never heard of it. |
Really? It's pretty close to Asheville...same general neck of the woods, about an hour and a half into the mountains. Its at the intersection of state road 107 and I-64.
towns close by include highlands, franklin, and walhalla. It's very close to lake glenville if you've heard of that |
Oh, yea, I know where Franklin is. How'd you enjoy your trip? Being from New Jersey, I'm getting sick of it down here. I'm a damned yankee.
|
Hah...well im leaving tomorrow, but I haven't gotten sick of it yet. I've been coming since before I can remember, the mountains will always have a little part of me.
Coincidentally, I go to school in New Jersey, and always find myself getting sick of it. What exactly is it you miss about NJ? |
