or are they? I found them growing in my backyard last year. This year, they came back with a vengence. I think they are beautiful. Does anyone know what they are?

they are quite beautiful, sportswidow! I believe they're called foxgloves.

I'm not sure what they're called, so I'll have to acquiesce to paddyjoe's expertise on this one. I see them around here a lot. The difference with the ones I see is that the buds are not nearly as large or colorful.

digitalus...........foxglove some think them weeds ,others grow them with abandon....self seeding and need no care xoxoxoo

If they are weeds, they are very pretty ones. I will not pull them out.

What's neat about these (and other similar types) is how bumble-bees use them. They fly in and out of them like a cars parking in a garage.

SportsW, you might want to contain them a bit. They have popped up all over my property just from some wild ones from about a mile away. Cut the flowers before they go to seed and you will keep them from taking over.

They are very pretty though.

and thanks for the tip Elphaba. Right now they are on the hill in my yard, they are free to be there. If the start coming into my grass, then I will have to do something. I will definitely keep what you said in mind.
