I'm a guy with a name I've had to spell to everybody all my life and resented it everytime. I refused to name my children with a name they would be forced to spell or one that people couldn't pronounce. While it might be cute to spell a name in a wierd way, I wouldn't subject my children to that. I'm glad my wife agreed with me:)

We have Alexandria Ann-- first name hubby and I liked, middle name is the same as mine
Aaron James-- wanted it to be another 'A' name, saw a show on Elvis Aaron Presley and liked the name, middle name is my maiden name
Ashlyn Elizabeth-- first name hubby picked, middle name is from my side of the family.
I wanted my kids to have name that had alot of nickname options because as a child I didn't like my name and had no options. So all of them could change to various things through the course of their life if they wanted to.

I'm with you on the siple bit. Just named our first son Rory. His middle name is my wife's maiden name - which is also rather short "Marsden", so it's not too much of a mouthful.

Why did we pick Rory? No significance - it's not very common and we both liked it.

Nicknames - currently we are calling him "snorty" because he snorts and shuffles a lot! :)

So did I. And my sister. And my mom. And my dad. And now my daughter. I haven't resented it about myself though. I do find myself doing my best to make sure I know how to spell other people's names though, and people who don't care to spell people's names right bug me. But I don't hate my parents because my name is uncommon.
