I hope it is like riding a bike!

Hi all of you happy parents out there! Here is my situation, I have a 10 year old son and now my wife and I are expecting a baby in about 4 and half months. I have played a very active role in my sons life and actually raised him by myself from 5 on , till I got remarried about a year ago. Was just kinda curious if any other parents here have had that large of a span between kids and how hard was it to go back into baby mode! I am looking very forward to it and love kids very much. But still makes me a little nervous at times thinking about it. Well just wondered if anybody had any input on it.

Hey cas, parents had my little brother eleven years after me and my older brother (by two years), and they felt that parenting was a bit easier that time.

Some of it was the help that we could give, but also the fact that they were wiser and more patient.

Plus, we thought that my kid brother was the coolest toy we ever got! We took him everywhere, even when we started to drive!

I wouldn't worry too much about it, you'll have plenty of energy, more than enough smarts, I mean hell...you started at zero with your ten year old right?

Good luck and congratulations!

Thanks Sticky, great insight, not only did that cover my post but other concerns oh how the two will get along. Of course my son right now is saying he hopes it is not a yucky girl, but I have a feeling it won't matter he is a pretty good kid. Thanks Again!

My brother is 10 yrs. older than me. We get along great, but we are still quite different and not that close. They could be close, depending on their personalities, who knows. But my brother is the total opposite of me in most things, plus, like I said, the big age difference. Also, because when I was 7, he joined the Marines, and so for most of my teen years, he was gone. We never had a great opportunity to grow close, although he loves me to death and would do anything for me and he would always try to cheer me up.
It may be difficult for them, but ya never know- they may be closer attached than glue!

My twins (former step children) were 12 and my son was 8 when my first daughter was born. The twins are now 22 and one of them is extremely close to the girls. He spoils them rotten -- phones and visits often -- and is totally in love with them.

Now that Lebell and I are marrying he says he hopes we have another one and assures the girls that it is "really cool and bonds the family."

The other two do okay with the girls. They love them -- just aren't as close. I think it depends on the individual.

Good luck and have fun! Congratulations too!
