Why are Men Attracted to Women??

First off, obviously not all men are, but why am I, for instance, or other stright men, attracted to women.
For women, the need to have children, to nurture and procreate is fairly strong, near as I can tell being a man. So, women on a basic level see men as a way to have a kid, or many kids and help provide for these kids. Again this isn't true for all women, but for many. So, other than in the physical sense, like a male body also wants to procreate, why is a male attracted to a female?

Now, there are answers like, a good looking woman may look good becuase she is healthy, and we want to have healthy children, but I'm saying on a more basic level. Is it completly the need to have a baby? I don't want that right now at all, being only 19, so why am I still attracted to women?

p.s. I did a search for this topic and might have missed something is so I'm sorry.

It makes perfect sense evolution-wise that we should have tropisms for what ensures our survival on a biological level.

Exactly -- the kind of men who aren't attracted to women are the kind of men whose genes aren't going to be around in the next generation.

Ah yes the great question……it does make one ponder doesn’t it? As for my opinion on the matter, and obviously I can't speak for everyone……well……I like boobs.
This, perhaps isn’t the answer you were looking for? Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you!

Simply said - because Nature tells us to. ;)

Remember, even though we are humans,
we are animals first.

Yep. Its all evolution. Mother Nature is smarter than some people take her to be. Think about it--if the sexes werent attracted to one another, we wouldnt be here having this discussion right now.

phukraut 11-04-2003 12:00 PM

i think mother nature is the dumb, not smart.. i suspect the idea of procreation was a trial and error thing, just like all evolution, not something directed ;).

Midnight_Son 11-04-2003 12:01 PM

so.....it's more than just boobs then?
that’s a shame, I really thought I had this one all figured out.:)

* I hope my humor doesn't bother you guys too much, we get into such serious discussions all the time it's nice to throw out a tension breaker every now and then.

I read an interesting theory by Orson Scott Card in either his book Children of the Mind or Xenocide that all of civilization can be traced back to why men are attracted to women. This is a basic summary:

Men are attracted to women because they have a deep driving instinct to spread their seed. Deep down inside of every man is a little voice that screams, "The human race will NOT die on my watch!" It is for this reason that all of humanity's explorations and inventions have taken place. Why did the Vikings sail across the Atlantic? To rape and pillage on the other side! Why was the automobile invented? To attract women and get to them faster! Why did America put a man on the moon? To search for alien women!

Women, as was previously mentioned, are much more interested in security because they have to become vulnerable and carry around children. That is why we have great cities and civilizations; primitive man found a wife and discovered that now he had to take care of her.

The moral of the story is that men are attracted to women because the human race is in peril and only procreation can save it. Personal preferences like boobs, size and figure all come in second place to the fact that men need to fuck something and they have to fuck it NOW!!!

Devilchild 11-04-2003 03:47 PM

I think the body shape, and what we see others do and like we seem to like, and also the fact that we have a father and mother, we see us as the father, and other girls as a possible mother for our children.

pocon1 11-04-2003 05:05 PM

Having children is the only potential for immortality. A man can look at his child and say "I made that". If the child is smart or capable, he thinks that the child is a reflection of him.

Ustwo 11-04-2003 06:13 PM

I could go on and on about the genetics involved, and animal behavior, but does that really answer the basic question?

I am attracted to women because I like to have sex with them.

Which answers most of the genetic questions as well.

"opposites attract"

There isn't a philisophical answer to this question. Our biology dictates that we are attracted to women.

It is, however, a disadvantage to be attracted to anything - it makes you irrational and vulnerable. It would be much more practical playing the single man using women for sex and nothing else. But that's not socially acceptable, nor emotionally feasible (at least not indefinitely). It's too bad, really.

who says its not emotionally feasible

i stand here and tell you that i am and will be single all my life

women are not worth half the troble

i learned along time ago to channel my emotions in to engery by not acting on lets say lust i use the engery i would of wasted on things that are more productive then that

do i find women attarcative sure but i can live with out them

and no i am not gay

does soceity consider me odd for that sure so what i have not in the past nor will i in the futrue give a rats ass about what soceity thinks

filtherton 11-05-2003 07:39 PM

Please be kind and punctuate. It makes you point so much easier to understand.

I think humans are attracted to pleasure. We gravitate towards things that will provide pleasure and/or satisfaction.

I also think that out of all of humanity's ancestors, the ones who were most likely to have children were most likely to be the source material for humanity 2003. There are exceptions though. Raise your hand if you have a gay dad.

People who say that they don't care about what society thinks interest me. Who are you? What kind of person are you really? Do you realize that if you have grown up in society, that you have been influenced by what society thinks for the entirety of your life? Do you think killing is wrong? Why? Because society taught you that it was. What is religion? It has to be taught to you - people don't just spontaneously go to church to practice a religion they have never heard of or know anything about. Better yet, why do you wear clothes? Especially the clothes you wear - the styles, the colors, etc.

Everyone is a product of their society. Whether or not you 'think' you care what society thinks, subconciously you do.

That is, unless you are a hermit.

By the way, I say it isn't emotionally feasible. And who am I to say? I dunno, it's just what I think (which is implied, really). However, how long have you gone single? If you can live out the rest of your life without ever becoming emotionally attached to a woman and all of the baggage she comes with, then you can tell me and everyone else here that it's possible and I'll say, "Yeah, you were right." Until then, I stand by my opinion.

Telethon 11-06-2003 07:26 PM

Sorry, didn't read all of the replies but I'm sure the reason males are attracted to females is just because our brain chemistry was made that way. All livings thhings are made to reproduce.

prosequence 11-07-2003 01:43 PM

i am in fact a hermit i have little or no social contact

to say that i am a product of soceity well sure but that does not mean i still conect myself to soceity

i have been single for five years now and truly i am happier since i became single. I think the key with social contact is having an amout that makes you happy. For me that is next to none, i will admit i have a friend whom i have been friends with for a while and we still talk but basically i dont have social contact.

As for women the only woman i Talk to on a reguler basis is my best friends girl friend and while she is nice enough we are not emotionally contected

I am not saying my life style is for every one but it works well for me

Kim_type_thing 11-08-2003 12:54 AM

First, staying single is not the most practical way to do things. After copulation there is gestation, birth and then infancy. For at least three years after sex, the life of a child is dependent on the survival of it's mother, who is dependent on her family group. Back in the day (that part of our evolution when we got set in our human ways) man did not have the same number of mating opportunities (not that today your chances are any better) that he has now so, spreading his seed far and wide never happened. Early man's best bet was to see that his mate could care for their child. Attraction makes you want to care for something.

What keeps a more self aware human needing the opposite sex? I'm 24 and my SO is 27,we don't want kids but our relationship is important to us. I am not a man. I don't listen like a man. I don't offer comfort like a man and I don't relate like a man would. Women are the half of the human experience that is not a threat.Since there is no competition there is more room for communication (what most of our brains are devoted to).
Women and men relate to one another in a way that makes us feel successful in the most basic way.My boyfriend could have a shity day at work, his buddies will buy him a beer and tell him to walk it off, nothing that he hasn't been telling himself. He comes home to me and will take care of some need I have, like fixing a toaster or some guyish thing, that allows him to feel successful and needed, neutralizing inadequacies at work.

John Henry 11-08-2003 05:57 AM

Just to summarise, any species that depends on breeding to reproduce, but has no desire to breed dies out after one generation for obvious reasons. Mother nature couldn't give a flying fuck. And yes, you do like boobs, even if you are a girl (but then usually secretly). End of thread.

Eldaire 11-12-2003 06:47 PM

Cuz they have boobies! That's why I'm attracted anyway. Also, when I see them hot and naked I get a hard on. Another good reason I think.
