Come now. The paltry "define 'equal'" line is rather gauche, don't you think?

I don't have time to right a 30 page paper on this, in the 10 min i have between now and my next class. HOWEVER, i believe that society has to allow for everyone to be equal to function correctly. It is up to the indviddual to prove his worth. As in the case of a middle class white male he only has to be average to qualify as equal. In the case of a lower class negro or hispanic they need to be rather exceptional to be percieved as an equal because they have to overcome there racial stigma of underperforming citizens. Is it fair. No was it ever intended to be No. Will it ever be No. Does society fucntion superbally with the system implemented YES.

Wow that answer doesn't do justice to the topic at all. I'd love to share my ideas and make a significantly more bulletproof statement as i could back up everything i've said, but you could pick apart every part of that one and crumble it to the ground as is.

no i don't believe we are born equal. i think we are born with certain things (hereditary) predisposed to us and certain abilities and talents that could be nurtured later on. i was a natural at art from the get go. i could color inside the lines by age 3. and started reading at age 4 after picking up english that same year. but maybe we're equal in the sense that all these unique abilities we have somehow balance out.

being born equal would mean we have the same oppurtunities for success and we don't.
